Q: No Vitamins and Vegetarian?

At the moment i'm only taking folic acid as prescribed by the doctor.

I'm not worried by vitamins, but by the substances used to make vitamins as it seems to vary depending on where you buy them from.

Can anyone recommend a good multivitamin without vitamin a or e?

Also is it safe to not take vitamins being vegetarian? I don't each much soya so i'm worried about protein intake, but i do eat reasonably well.

Since you don't eat meat you will need to watch your b vitamin intake and your iron intake since these usually become very low even in women that do eat meat since baby need these to make blood cells and so do you since your blood volume will increase dramatically, getting adequate calcium is also important and they also recommend DHA these days too. No matter how good your diet it is hard to take in enough of all the vitamin groups and taking a prenatal pill usually only gives an average absorption of 25% of the pills contents into your body versus approx. 80% from a equivalent liquid multivitamin so if you go the pill route I wouldn't worry to much about over kill on any one vitamin since your not going to absorb even half of what it lists on the label anyway. Good luck and a happy healthy 9 months

Thankyou i will look into these suggestion.

A & E artificially are not good in pregnancy according to studies i've read although fine if from fruit and veg etc.

I've read about the toxicity of vitamins and hence i'm worried as i don't want to overdose on a particular vitamin group.

Thanks again :)

Just out of curiosity, why no A or E?

I highly recommend New Chapter Perfect Prenatal, same as kelliers, but they do have vitamin A & E in them. I don't think you'll find a multi-vitamin without A & E in them....

But New Chapter is an amazing and top-recommended brand. I feel 1000 times better putting those in to my body rather than any other OTC prenatal.

Look into the NewChapter Organics Prenatals. They are the highest rated prenatal-I take them and they are suitable for vegetarians and vegans and are made from all plant products. No matter how well you eat, it is still good to take a good prenatal. This brand has nutrients for breastfeeding support as well. These are high quality vitamins and you can feel good about what is in them-they are sold at GNC and on Amazon and at some health food stores.

Your best bet is to go to a health food store. They tend to have a million different kind of vitamins. It's not advised to avoid vitamins all together regardless of how well you eat. And remember, prenatal vitamins are perfectly safe(even the cheap ones) and if you are eating super healthy you won't need to spend the big bucks on the ones that promise to be absorbed better or whatnot.
