Q: Wondering about tilted Cervix and seeing baby problems.

Well, I recently found out I was pregnant and that I have a tilted cervix, and I really have no idea what that is. All I know is that they cant get a picture of the baby, and they also cant hear a heartbeat for the baby. I haven't had an internal ultrasound yet. I will get one this Wednesday and I am SO excited! I just wanna hear my baby's heartbeat and have some peace of mind. So I'm just wondering if anyone else has had any of the same problems? I'm trying not to worry but it's a little unsettling! I know when they did my first ultrasound they could barely see the baby, she said it was because of my tilted cervix and that is probably why they cant hear the heartbeat as well. I also may not be as far as they thought by my last period, so I know that makes a difference.

I have a completely retroverted uterus. My uterus was facing my anus instead of my kidneys. I haven't any major problems with it. The only problem I really have intense cramping that radiates down to my anus when I'm PMSing. During my first trimester those streching cramps were the same too. I thought I had an m/c because my cramps were that intense. As the pregnancy progress though it will lift itself up along with the growing baby. This is #3 for me and he is progressing just fine. I had 1 m/c prior and that was a chemical pregnancy, it had nothing to do with the uterus being retroverted. One concern that I do have is that later on in life we will be more prone to prolapse uterus.

Also be aware too that misdiagnosed miscarriages are more common in those with tilted uterus's as well as blighted ovums. If they cannot hear a heartbeat or see much of anything try not to worry much until after 12 weeks. Sometimes it will take that long for everything to be visible with a tilted uterus and i have read a ton of stories about misdiagnosed miscarriages because of the tilted uterus. Not saying this to scare you just listen to your body and stand your ground firmly and don't panic if a heartbeat is still not found. but with a transvaginal they should be able to hear it but with my tilted uterus i had a transvaginal a few yrs ago for something else and i was "missing an ovary" or so they said... but.. I was not. So the tlted uterus can make it harder to locate baby and parts of the sack and yolk and other parts as well. Good luck! i am positive that everything is fine and healthy for you! :)

How far a long are you??? I am only about 5 weeks and I too have a tilted uterus. It just means that instead of your uterus being straight up and down like every other woman's does it tilts towards your back and pelvis. Sometimes during the first pregnancy because of this woman with tilted uterus's will not show until later than most. But try not to worry too much the baby as it grows will make it tilt forward to normal usually around 11 weeks. However my mom had a tilted uterus as well and said she had horrible back labor with both me and my brother....something to look forward to. I myself have had some lower back pain in this early stage of pregnancy. BUT it does make sense they cannot locate or hear the babies heart beat because its further back, literally. hth! Good luck! and congrats!
