Category: Is It Safe?

Asked by mrsamandaervin

Q: 3w5d. Just found out I'm pregnant. I have a serious head cold/sinus infection/99.3 temp and...

Really bad diarrhea. I have had it for hours. I'm scared to take by thing at all. I'm sucking in cough drops for a TERRIBLE sore throat also. I don't know what to do. What I can take. I'm afraid to take anything at all. :/

Thank you! :) I called my doctor and they said it was okay for me to take Tylenol and Mucinex. They gave me some others I could take too, like Zyrtex, Claritan D, Robatussin and a few others. I took 1 does of Tylenol and 1 dose of Mucinex last night and haven't had anymore yet. I'm hoping I won't need anymore. I'm still worried to take any. I'm just 4 weeks today.

Believe it or not ..these are All very early pregnancy symptoms. Your immune systems is down so it doesn't fight the baby :) It will pass, no worries. Careful with the pills tho ...do not take Advil for the pain (like a I did not knowing I was preggo)
I took Tylenol for the flu and the fever. Doc said is safe but ask yours just in case. For the sore throat/ cough breath in olbas oil. Hope this helps. Congrats and good luck :)

The diarrhea could be a side effect of the pregnancy. Not all women become constipated from pregnancy, but rather go the other way. I am never more regular than when I'm pregnant! Lol! Feel better!

I'm only almost 4 weeks. I'm drinking those EmergenC Vit C fizzy drinks you mix with water. Hoping it helps don't wanna take anything. Trying to keep it all coughed up and blown out of my nose. My temp went back down to 97 something this morning. Hope it goes away on its own.

The cold is common and won't hurt baby, it's just very unpleasant. Lots of herbal tea and honey/lemon water and as much rest as you can possibly get. A steamy shower can do wonders, too. Good for you for trying to clear it on your own-especially at 8 weeks it is best to avoid medications unless it becomes absolutely a must. That said, you don't want a sinus infection to become a very serious infection so you should try to see a doctor sooner rather than later just so they can be sure it's not spreading throughout your face. Also keep an eye on your fever-you really don't want to let it get much higher than it is and you should mention it also when you are trying to get a last minute appointment. Doctors don't like to see pregnant women with high fevers! I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you. I believe the drops I have only contain menthol. I will check again. I plan on staying home from work today and sleeping a LOT. I feel like I have the flu or something. I had a flu shot weeks ago though. I don't know. I just know I'm absolutely miserable.

I feel for you! It seems its quite the norm to get a cold and that when first pregnant by all the similar posts on here :/

Keep up with lots of fluids and I mean lots! Paracetamol is safe to take. Honey and lemon in water. And make sure the cough drops are alcohol free as some are not suitable. And rest!!

I used a face steamer when I had a bad cold and chest infection when I was around 4 weeks pregnant, that really helped if you can get hold of one.

Hope you feel better soon.
