Q: When should you have your first visit with your OB?

I am 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant and this is my 3rd pregnancy, my 1st pregnancy I went to the health dept because I didn't have insurance at the time and I had my blood work done at 8 weeks and then had my 1st OB apt at 12 weeks, my 2nd pregnancy was miscarriage at 5 weeks and 1 day and so what I am asking is when should I have my first prenatal appointment with an OB?

Thank you for the help!

Ultrasounds are scheduled separately. Mine was done the day after my initial OB appointment but only because I have an awesome clinic who wanted to ease my mind about my miscarriage. I've already had 3 ultrasounds and I'm only 7w. It will most likely be done around 10w unless you specifically request it and even then your doctor will have to agree with your reasoning. I really love my doctor.

My doc won't see me until 8 weeks. I'm 5w5d and can't wait for my first appt. I just want to know everything is ok. Last time I has a missed miscarriage. Baby had stopped developing at 6w but since my appt wasnt until a few weeks later, I did not know. Because of this, this time I asked for the nurse to order hcg tests for me just so I would have some reassurance that everything is progressing as it should. She was hesitant but did it for me.

I went in after I had a positive pregnancy test in order to confirm viability. By the time I tested I was five weeks and my doctor saw me at five weeks five days. I miscarried on Oct. 5th and was pregnant three weeks later so Dr. .wanted to confirm it was a new pregnancy.

The local prenatal clinic here will not see anyone until 10 weeks.

My doctor does not see you until you are 8 weeks. No blood work or anything. I guess they figure if something bad is going to happen in the beginning there is not much you can do about it. So, I didn't see him until 8 weeks.

It depends on the dr. Most drs won't see you until 8 weeks, however, since you had a prior miscarriage they may want to get you in earlier. Until you get in, eat & drink healthy, and make sure you're taking your prenatals! Congrats!

As soon as you can get in :) I am 7w 2d and I have had 2 doctor's visits, 1 blood draw, 2 urine samples and 2 Ultrasounds. I have my 3rd u/s tomorrow. All because of my missed miscarriage in September. I am under close watch partially to ease my mind. Early prenatal care is extremely important and I was lucky everything was ok with my 1st because I didn't see a doctor until 23 weeks.
