Hmm...I don't think I would throw myself a shower. Maybe if your husband could play it off like he's surprising you with the baby shower otherwise there has to be someone that can put one together for you. People generally love to plan things like that even if they aren't your best friend. Good luck!

Honestly I don't think it matters either way. People will understand if you don't have anyone close to you close by, However I would warn you to not expect big things like swings, cribs, bouncers and the like from people that aren't close enough to you to throw you a shower. That stuff usually comes from really good family and friends. That being said, hit the thrift stores!! :)

I'm in exactly this position. I have friends that I would love to have attend my shower here in town, but almost all of my family lives OUT of town by at least 2 hours.

It would feel weird to throw myself a party, I feel like that's similar to shouting, "Everyone look at me! I'm having a baby, shower me with presents!" whereas if my mother (2.5hrs away) threw me a shower, it'd be more like, "Come celebrate with us!"

My mom's solution: throw TWO showers! One for in-towners, one for out-. Not entirely sure I'd ever do that, but since my husband and I first started trying to conceive, that's been one of the things I keep coming back to: how to handle the baby shower? lol
