Q: best car for starting a family

I currently have a Honda Civic 2007, it's small but has always worked for me. My husband says we need something bigger for when the baby comes. An SUV of some kind would be easier to put car seat and take out as it would be higher up and could use it for vacations with ease of transporting our stuff and baby stuff. How big is big enough without too outlandishly to expensive. We've test drove a Mitsubishi Outlander but there are several others that are similar that I like too. I can't decide, any recommendations.

I have a 2013 gmc terrain and I love it!!! It's all wheel drive, great gas mileage, and perfect amount of room. I find that it's the perfect size for our son and everything he could ever need. Our next one is due in September and both car seats fit just fine with plenty of room to maneuver. It has a built in gps, touch screen in dash system and it's just all around a beautiful vehicle. I would recommend it to anyone. Good luck on your search!

I cant recommend any SUV's, never drove or wanted to drive one. Would a pickup be an option for u? U can get some nice ones that are good on gas. They offer the same backseat space and height as an SUV does and u have a large bed that allows u to transport cargo without the restrictions of a roof (but the option to add a hard/soft tonneau cover). Just another option u may not have thought of.

As far as recommendations for specific cars, we've tried out a Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Mazda 5. All of those were perfect, we're just waiting to find the right price on any of those!

I have a Honda Civic. It may seem fine... and it works at first (my son is 16 months old now). At first, it was ok, just a little tight fit. Now that my son is heavier, it's really difficult to remove the car seat from the base that is anchored in the backseat. The roof is low, so you end up bending over or hunched over while trying to lift up 20+ pounds. The car seat is on the passenger side in the back seat because it touches the front seats when installed. Now we're expecting another baby, and there is no way we're going to be able to fit 2 rear-facing seats in the back and drive safely.

SO, long story short, we are trading in my civic for an SUV or mini-van because there is just no room to comfortably fit 2 car seats.

Our third child is due in Oct & we have a 2011 Hyundai sonata & I love it! It is great on gas (35 mpg), and the back seat is roomy - enough to fit both boosters and an infant car seat as well.

Your car will be fine for when baby arrives. However, if you're still wanting a SUV, go for it. I currently have a 2004 KIA Sorento and I love it! It's not huge, but it's nice and roomy. We've already tested it out and the back seats comfortably fits my 4 year olds car seat and the baby seat, with room enough to fit another person. Plus there is plenty of cargo space for family road trips. My SIL has a Ford Escape and she loves it too.

I drive a 4 door '12 Civic and really like it, but I do wish I had my SUV back. I had a 2012 Nissan Rogue and it was awesome! Not too big, with a lot of space. Waist height, so getting a car seat in and out should be a breeze. The back is really roomy too, with plenty of space for a stroller and whatever else you might need for baby! I really wish I still had mine and can't wait to get another! Good luck on your car hunt.

Why get an SUV, a honda civic is fine. People manage with much less
