Q: Postpartum weight loss?

Anyone have any ideas on how to lose weight without affecting milk supply. I'm so nervous to cut calories and lose my milk. I'm doing the basics - increasing exercise and watching portion size, eating healthy stuff (nessecary for good quality milk anyway). I'm on maternity leave still so on a tight budget too

Breastfeeding will get rid of the weight, that's all I did. I ate normal and didn't even exercise and weight just fell off, was even skinnier post pregnancy then pre pregnancy.

My only advice would be to focus on eating HEALTHY rather than counting calories or cutting carbs or anything. You sound like you'll be on the right track. Remember that eating healthy is for you, not for your milk! Your milk will be the same either way. Don't deprive yourself of quantity as long as it's nutrient-rich foods.
If you're on a tight budget, remember that fresh veggies are cheap! Lots and lots of veggies, good proteins, LOTS of water.
A pound per week is a really sensible goal!

Just be careful in the beginning. I was all about getting back in to shape, and I wasn't going to wait 6 weeks to start exercising. Thank goodness I read up on some tips. Your stomach muscle separates, and if you don't give it time to adequately heal you could do permanent damage. But that mostly applies to any exercise that works your abs. I hear walking is good in the beginning. Then again, my lil sis tried to do too much and she didn't heal as fast as she could have. Her advice is, "don't even lift a laundry basket in the beginning!" LOL! I wish there was a postpartum mom's workout group available.

Breastfeeding usually burns 500 extra calories a day. Even if you're on a normal diet you're still going to loose weight so don't feel like you have to go overboard. Just do what you can for exercise (you'll have just pushed a BABY out of yourself, you will need time to recover from that, after all) and don't sweat it. Ideally, even if you didn't have a child, you shouldn't loose more than a pound a week in weight. Slow and steady wins the race.

You may be surprised how little baby weight you actually have to lose too. A couple weeks after the baby is born all the weight that actually comes from the baby, and the increased blood flow blah blah blah :) Plus nursing helps with decreasing the "flab" too. It actually helps your uterus shrink back to it's original size, which will pull in your muscles, while burning calories. Don't stress too much about it :)

It should just slowly fall off while you nurse and exercise. It won't go away over night but it sounds like you are already on the right track. I wouldn't cut your meals down too much though or it will disrupt your milk supply.
