Q: How to keep the pounds from packing on all at once?

I am 25 weeks and 2 days pregnant. This is my second child. I was told two months ago that I could no longer walk/exercise due to bleeding and placenta problems. I was doing so well and only gaining a half a pound a week until the past 6 weeks. I have gained 10 pounds in 6 weeks. 4 of those 10 lbs were gained just in one week. I know it is because I am no longer exercising. And my appetite has increased in the past month as well. Any suggestions on helping the excessive weight gain? My doctor is not concerned, but my selfishness is getting in my way.

Just make sure you are not eating processed food and eat a lot of veggies and protein. There was one week that I gained 4 pounds, I think right around the end of the 2nd trimester. I gained 40 pounds with my daughter, which was a lot for me. But, I was able to lose all the weight plus 8 pounds by breastfeeding alone!

I know exactly how you feel! I'm having a difficult time as I'm a runner and have always been fit. No one told me that everyone gains weight differently. Everything I've read online says you should gain about a pound a week during the second trimester. I gained most of my 2nd trimester weight in the last 4 weeks of my 1st trimester. I was really worried I was making an unhealthy fat baby. I was SOOOO hungry all the time. But once 2nd trimester hit I wasn't hungry at all, and my weight remained pretty constant. It's all equaling out and I'm on schedule for expected weight gain. My midwife is awesome and looks at total weight gain rather than single chunks of time. You may be going through something similar. Try not to worry too much (I know, kinda difficult!) and listen to your body.

Most of your weight gain will be water and baby from here on in. You need to eat a healthy balanced diet and not 'eating for two' or indulging in too many naughty treats are healthy suggestions but also don't starve yourself as baby needs food. As long as your doing this and your dr isn't concerned then it's just a symptom of growing a tiny human inside you.
I know it's hard but you may want to think about putting self image aside just until baby is born and you can get back to your exercise workout and shift those gained pounds.

Not long now hun so hang in there x
