Q: Feeling ashamed over weight gain....

Before i found out i was pregnant i was an active Bulimic. (was diagnosed 3 years ago: Bulimic with anorexic tendencies). I started out at 185 pounds. Now, at 28 weeks, i'm 206 pounds. That's 21 pounds gained.. and i still have 12 weeks to go. I'm freaking out, and it's really making me stress out. I feel SO ashamed that i've let myself gain TWENTY pounds so far... that's how much i told myself i'd gain by the END of my pregnancy. I want to lose weight SO bad right now........
I have a doctors appointment today and i'm so scared i'll be counseled about my weight gain, it's honestly not something i can deal with right now.
What do i do :( I know i obviously can't lose weight right now, and i've been doing fine with maintaining my weight till i hit about 24 weeks...
I don't eat horrible things, or horribly big proportions either.. ugh :'(

As someone who suffered from anorexia/ bulimia for 5 years I totally understand you fears. Although recovered (for the most part) before falling pregnant pregnancy deff does your head in. Just keep reminding yourself that your doing this for your little one. Weight loss isn't safe for you and bub while pregnant and to be honest having an eating disorder active weightloss is never ok for us as it just triggers behaviours. Do you have a psych or dietitian you can see to talk to? I had to revert to a meal plan at the start of my pregnancy just for a few days to keep me on track. Up to 40lbs is certainly classified normal pregnancy weight gain so there is no need to beat yourself up xx

I'm sorry you have to go thru the same mind games :/ They're tough when you're trying to enjoy pregnancy!!
My doctor said NOT to worry about my weight gain, and to just focus on having a healthy fat baby- she said 20 pounds gained right now really isn't that bad, and that i'll be okay, she just told me to cut back on sugary things and carbs- but not too much.
I'm just going to hide my scale.... it's not my friend right now lol

I have anorexia tendencies. I totally know what you mean about weight gain. I starve myself pretty good and am very underweight. I didn't realize I had the problem until right before I got pregnant again.
With my daughter I put on 40 pounds and was the heaviest I ever was in my life. But with pregnancy weight a lot of it is baby. My weight broken down was:
-9 pounds 3 oz baby
-average 1.5 pounds placenta
-average 1.8 pounds fluid
-total weight lost giving birth at least 12.6 pounds.
I'm the opposite of you. I am almost 22 weeks and only gained about 13 pounds and that is after losing 6 pounds due to morning sickness. So I am going to be lectured about NOT weighing enough. If you want to talk to someone who is kinda going through the same thing as you feel free to message me. I've got the same self mind games going on right now.

I couldn't agree more with stephpan. Talk with your doctor about your feelings and past diagnoses. They should be able to help you. That amount of weight is totally normal, so try not to stress, even though I know it's easier said than done. You will be able to lose it again. You want a healthy baby, too, though! Just remember what you're doing it for! :)

I think you definitely need to discuss this with your doctor - especially your feelings of guilt and issues.

With your diagnosis - I think its really important that you get help with this as soon as you can.

Your doctor shouldn't counsel you about weight - 20 pounds is totally in the normal range of weight gain for a pregancy.
