The canned beans were gluten free, I do know that much. GI definitely has a strong genetic factor: my grandmother, my mother, my younger brother, a cousin of mine, and I all have it. I wasn't always so sensitive, but living a year with my in-laws and their rampant cross-contaminiation has done a number on me in the first place. Thankfully, it seems that the time away from them has helped a good deal, because the symptoms I've experienced from the incident are already subsiding. I'm just going to have to be extra careful in the months to come so that I don't get a repeat.
Oh, watch out for dairy allergies in your children - my younger brother was wrongly diagnosed with being lactose intolerant before we found out he was gluten intolerant. What happens is, with him, if he has Gluten, he literally cannot stomach any dairy, but so long as he's GF he can consume as much as he wants.

I'm allergic to gluten but didn't know till after having my daughter. Before and during i thought i was intolerant so of cause pushed it a bit and ate stuff i should of been avoiding. I fell ill a few times while pregnant. Mostly cause i also have IBS and was drinking those litlle probiotice drinks. It was the yogurt drinks that was causing me to get ill so much cause i now know i have to watch out for modified starches any yogurts can have large amounts in to thicken them. Of cause. Eating the things i shouldn't made things a lot worse.
It sounds like it eas gluten to me. What beans did you have, as they're can always be the chance you are getting more sensitive from you're pregnancy. Hopefully you're not and it was just being in someone elses kitchen. My daughter came out fine but as gluten problems are past down I keep an eye on her. I think she is more likely to have a problem and my son is 16 so i think we would have seen some signs by now.

I just posted my story on your journal as I read that first. I can't say for sure as I've had nothing confirmed in tests other then issues going away for the first time since I was 12 once I cut it out and then only have a minor amount. For example if I have pasta and bread in the same day its not good.
I was told that I'm fine and so is baby to eat gluten although staying away is better But if I was true celiac/coeliac then small and infrequent contamination will not do any harm to baby, just you. where as over exposure or multiple contaminations should be avoided as your ill health might take its tole. I hope this is a little comfort even if its from a gluten ambivalent.
