Q: Looks like a boy? Your thought please!

I just had my ultrasound yesterday for the Downs Syndrome testing at 12w 4d. I asked the tec if she could tell the gender and she said that no not yet and it was too early. When I got to see the baby on the screen me and my hubby could CLEARLY see babies 'manhood' and the ultrasound tec looked at us and giggled because baby was shaking his business around the whol time! What do you think? To early to tell yet? Check out my ultrasound pic I just uploaded and let me no what you think!

They can definitely look similar at that stage, but I found a study that showed out of 524 participants, with 126 total scans at 12 weeks, were accurate 75% of the time. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/store/10.1046/j.1469-0705.1999.13050301.x/asset/818_ftp.pdf;jsessionid=08AD45ADA4B8E935D79F5C2C1E494E53.f04t01?v=1&t=hweg2wc2&s=8753d87699839428e5a54bc33a1555a4dda37284

Iive had a few friends told its diff a boy at 12 weeks only to find out its a girl at 20 weeks! Our us tech refused to even have a look/ guess as she said it's essentially a 50/50 chance on wether it's a boy or a girl at that stage. We got a 3d scan done at 16 weeks so we could find out :)

I found out at 12 wks 1 day that we were having a girl and then had it confirmed a week later through blood work. The tech told me that at 12 wks some babies have distinguishable genitalia and some do not (she said that they never use the nub theory). With my daughter, when they snapped the pic I knew right away it was a girl because I saw the 3 lines that they use to confirm that it is a female - I remember that tidbit of info from when I had my first daughter. It really all depends on how sophisticated the machinery is (this was at the perinatologist so the machinery is very high tech) and how experienced the tech is at her job. That being said, I wouldn't buy blue or pink until you have it confirmed with a later u/s or blood work! Congrats!

I found out at 12w5d with my son that he was a boy. It's possible. They just don't like to say because it's "not as clearly accurate"

They are very much boy parts at that stage so it's easy to see why a lot of sonographers get it wrong at the early gender 16wk scan. Its surprising how many people were told boy and discover after 20 wks is a girl so even professionals get it wrong early on.
I have to wait till August for my dating scan although the odds are it's a boy for me.
So exciting! I hope your pregnancy runs smoothly and all the best hun.

I know about the boy and girl parts being the same but it was just funny to me that it looked so clearly a boy. My other two it was hard to tell but this one seemed so clear! But your totally right, it's fun guessing ;)

Both genders have a 'protrusion' down there until after 15weeks when it either starts to pull back into folds for a girl or elongate into the boy bit. That's why its best to wait till after 20wks when this change has fully finished so that you can be more sure of a sex.
Annoying waiting but fun guessing.
