Q: Birth Control After Baby

What birth control did you decide on after having baby? We're 3 weeks out from my due date with #2, and I STILL haven't been able to choose. I'm horrible at remembering to take the pill, I got pregnant with my oldest while on Depo and had horrible weight gain before getting pregnant. I had Mirena for 3 1/2 years after he was born and had severe issues with it, as well as 4 pregnancies that ended with miscarriage, not to mention that it just fell out randomly one day. I'm pretty much looking at Paragard or the mini pill. Anyone have any info/advice about either of those?

Hi everyone,
There are a few details that you need to take care about before decidingvon whether you want to go for the pill or not. You must keep in mind that with the mini pill you NEED to take it within an hour of the same time every day, since it's actually a sperm blocker more than a hormone changer. It creates a sticky mucusy plug basically, and if you don't keep on it then that deteriorates and sperm can get it. I didn't trust myself on it. I had nuvaring before we started trying for my son and I liked it. I was a little crazy and it's a little spendy, but overall I liked it. It was very comfortable and you can take it out during sex and then put it back in. I would recommend it. However, it is a hormone changer, so if you're planning on breast feeding I don't know how well it would work, and you may still have the weight gain like with the others that use hormones. Also, Mini pill made me feel like I was hungry everyday I was starving continually. Didn't last long on it.

I've heard Paraguard causes a lot more bleeding and cramping. I have Mirena and love it! No issues or problems at all. Like the other ladies said, mini pill has to be taken very religiously, or you will get preggo on it.

It depends on whether you plan on bf or not. Breastfeeding limits your options, so ask your Dr if you are planning on bf. Like the other ladies said, the mini pill HAS to be taken at approx the same time every day. The regular pill is much more effective, however it isn't an option if bf. I went on the regular pill after having baby #2 & hubby is being neutered in the near future!

I'm horrible at remember pills too, so this time around I'm trying mirena, but if that fails I think hubby is getting snipped ;)

Condoms and fertility awareness for us! I can't do any pill, hormonal bc or iud!
I considered the mini pill...but you still have to remember to take it at the same time every day so that doesn't work for me.
Paragard is also out for me due to issues I had with the mirena IUD.
