No. I believe every baby should be celebrated. If you're uncomfortable with it don't have a 'baby shower' where everyone brings gifts - have a celebration where all your friends get together and celebrate the new baby

If by "baby shower" you mean registering for oodles of gifts and expecting people to buy them-- yes, that is tacky.
However, if by "baby shower" you mean a celebration to welcome a new little one where gifts are appreciated but not required and the real goal is celebration-- I say go for it!
I also like the idea of throwing a "Baby-Q" (instead of BBQ) for friends and family-- doesn't come with the same gift-laden expectation, but still a way to celebrate.

i agree with the rest of these ladies. i wanted a baby celebration with my first and ended up with a small baby shower lol. i appreciated all the things i received but this time around im certainly more prepared and i dont need nor want quite as many things. this time around, i would like to do a summer celebration for my new baby and if anyone wants to get me something- than so be it.
my best friend had her 2nd child in june this past year, and pretty much from the time she found out she was pregnant until she had her daughter, i was buying her little things here and there. didn't have to be a special occasion, it just was buying things for my niece :)

You're worrying to much what others may think.
If you have the chance to have a baby shower you should, i've never had one and think ppl who have them are lucky
