Q: I'm gaining much more weight with this my fourth pregnancy than the other three; is it my age?

My first two pregnancies I gained 19 lbs each pregnancy, from start to finish. My third pregnancy I gained 26 lbs, from start to finish. This pregnancy, I am only 11 weeks along, and I have already gained ten lbs. I'm 34 years old. I eat pretty healthy, but I still have some work to do for making better choices for food. I'm just feeling discouraged because I have always been thin and beautiful. I'm not even out of the first trimester and I am literally gaining a pound a week. I know gaining weight is part of pregnancy, but there's gotta be some women out there like me who are also worried about gaining too much weight, eh girls? And it's not exactly diet time right now. So I gather, watch what you eat and make every calorie count but looks like it's going to happen anyways. I'm having a hard time with it. Any commiseraters? :(

Thanks girls! At least my husband seems to be enjoying my butt and my boobs, among my other extra curves, lol. I know it bothers me more than anyone else, and it's important to me that my husband still finds me attractive. That's really the part that bothers me, I don't really care what anyone else thinks besides him, and he is very sweet and acts like I'm crazy if I say I'm getting "fat," and smacks my "juicy booty" multiple times daily so I know he's enjoying it.

I forgot to say i was 19 with my first, 31 with my 2nd and coming up to 36 now with this bubs.
I've seen woman 10yrs younger complain of the same things. I wonder more if its to do with how many babies we've had more than our age. Also genes have alot to do with it.

I've been different with this pregnancy aswell, this is my 3rd and was bloated with fluid for the first 12 wks then 3lbs fell of which was the bloat going. I gained 7lbs at the start due to my weird sickness of having to eat where as my 2nd i could hardly eat a thing for 2 months from wk 9 but was fine at that point this time round.
I can't walk any where near as far as my bump is heavy and pushing on my hips again. Last time one hip was pushed out.
With my first after baby i weighed 14lbs heavier, no. 2 was 12lbs .
Not clue what i weighed during the pregnancies but already 20lbs gained so far at 19wks.
Theres always the chance alot is fluid thst you've gained, if you don't look to much different overall.

Hi and congrats! I know how you feel. I have gained an average of a pound a week and am already up 20 lbs half way through. The worst part is, I was so sick I could barely eat for the first month and unlike most who lose during that time, I still gained. So frustrating! Even my husband commented that it seemed I wasn't eating very much. I am 31 but not as active as I should be. I gained 50 lbs with my 1st pregnancy at 22 yrs old and 40 with my second at 28yrs. Looks like I'll be somewhere in between for this one. I am only 5'3" and was always slender before so the extra weight shows on me pretty fast. I think age can affect it, but ultimately I think it depends on your body type and how active you are. I bought a prenatal work out DVD in an effort to keep it at bay. Just know you're not alone sister! Just think of that beautiful baby and remember there is no time table on how fast to lose the weight afterwards. Slow and steady wins the race! Best of luck to you.

I should add I was 33 when I had my first. I do think our age makes a difference. I am currently TTC and I am ALREADY fearful I will pack on the pounds this time!

I am 5'4" and 115lbs. I gained 30lbs with my first child and that to me was healthy and I felt fine with it as it was within the "normal" range for me. I too tried to make healthy choices, but I'll always have work to do in the food dept because I love my pizza, french fries too :) My 30lbs came off without working out or breastfeeding. If your body is naturally smaller, you will bounce back sweety!

I was told you gain more with every pregnancy but it can even outv towards the end. My sister had 5 pregnancies and she started gaining earlier with each one and took her longer to loose it afterwards, she was almost 29 with her last pregnancy.
Honestly go see your Dr because they can make sure everything is on track for your circumstances and help you make better choices in the food and exercise department. Not many people make 100 percent good choices when it comes to food, my weakness is chocolate and Mcds.

Right there with you. I gained a TON of weight in my first trimester with this pregnancy (4th). I was hungry all of the time! I finally "gave in" and just went with it. I was so frustrated and pissed, but couldn't seem to stop eating. :) Now, in my third trimester I haven't gained a pound, so everything is balancing out. The baby is browning and looks good, so my doc isn't worried about it. I just tried to eat well (often not successful), eat when I was hungry (I've been very successful with that), and let go of when/how I was gaining. Good luck, and know you aren't alone!
