Q: Side pain in early pregnancy.

Ok, so today I am 6 weeks 3 days. For the last few days I have been experiencing a fairly severe pain in my left side slightly above my hip. I just wondered wether this is normal as I know ectopic pregnancies can cause this. It's like a pulling pain from half way round my back to half way round the front of my stomach. I'm going to get a Drs appointment today anyway but just wondered what you guys though. Thank you.

This can be a really common symptom and women who chart their ovulation say that when they fell pregnant that they ovulated on the left and the pain came on the left in the same spot. I read it was something to do with high hormone production on that side, possible the ovary but I can't remember the exact ins and out. It came and went through the whole of the first trimester for me and Drs said it was normal and could even be ligament pain.
I had discomfort to sometimes strong painful stabs on one side with all of my pregnancies.
Ectopic is normally accompanied with bleeding so you can take a little comfort in that, its always great to get Dr to check you over for the just in case issues and for your peace of mind.
Hope everything else goes smoothly.

I had a similar experience. For me it was actually a cyst but the dr will probably send you for a scan in case it is ectopic. Mine was not extremely painful though just slight discomfort good luck
