I have my first ultrasound at 8 weeks, will it be a tummy one or a vag one? Any advice will help.

I just had my u/s Monday(5weeks 6 days) and I had to do both tummy and transvaginal. I believe with my son at 7 weeks and some odd days I had to do both as well.

Your app will say drink water as they "intend" to do a tummy scan first, but if you are like me at 8 weeks it wasn't very clear through the tummy, so i was asked to empty my bladder and have a vaginal scan instead. They will try on your tummy first. Good Luck.

I had mine at 7 weeks and it was a tummy one!
But don't worry, the vaginal one isn't so bad ; plus seeing the "Peanut" in there makes it worthwhile!! :)
Congrats!
(PS: I am now 18 weeks)

Thank you for all your answers, dann179 after you said something about a full bladder I looked on my appt. form and it says to drink a litre of water 1 hr before my appt. I guess it will be a tummy one. I hope I can see something and I hope something is in there :)

Thanks again everyone!

it will most likely be transvaginal. Best advice just relax and enjoy seeing your baby! Its amazing to see for the first time!

I had one at 8 weeks and it was transvaginal, but no need to panic, its not uncomfortable at all and you get a better pic. And when the midwife picks up a hefty pole, don't panic, literally only a few inches go inside. To be honest its more painful to have a tummy scan so early as you have to have a full bladder at such an early stage and someone pressing on your stomach when you need a wee isn't pleasant !!!! :/

Mine was at 8 weeks and it was transvaginal also, not the most comfortable but I can think of worst things. Once you get to see the bab it won't matter anyhow=) Good Luck!
