Q: Baby is 8 days old and I'm soooooo sick!

I can't keep anything down, dry heaving, intermittent fever. I'm worried about the nutrition of my milk, so sometimes supplementing. I have felt like this for 3 days, I feel like I will never get better. It sucks so bad.

Make sure you don't have a mastitis infection going on. I felt TERRIBLE with mastitis with similar symptoms. It can sometime mimic stomach flu symptoms with boday aches, fevers, nausea, vomiting and chills. Good luck and feel better soon. Congrats on your new addition!

It's true keep nursing, Unless advised not to medically, back in the day it wasn't so easy to just supplement so really we are ment to just "stay calm and keep on nursing" lol. It's hard when your having a hard time keeping anything down, try ginger tea or flat ginger ale, alternate water with an electrolyte drink like Gatorade, you can try drinking boost or ensure, anything to get some calories and fluids in, even if you eventually bring them back up and time in your stomach is time that some things got absorbed especially when there liquid so your body doesn't have to work as hard to digest. Some people fi d they need to take something to coat their stomach like milk or yogurt or even something OTC like liquid antacid because so much heaving strips the lining and makes the tummy super sensitive. It sucka being sick with a baby, but the more you supplement the more your milk supply will drop and its often hard work to get it back up. Best of luck!!! Feel better

Continue to nurse!! Of course unless told otherwise by your dr. If it makes you feel better wear a mask when baby's around you. Your antibodies will protect your baby from getting sicker if he/she does get sick. Hope this helps. Feel better soon!

My dr always told me to keep nursing unless told by her not too, you're providing important antibodies throuh your milk to your little one especially when you are sick. As for the duration and current illness, call your dr asap. Hopefully it's nothing, but you never know. My mom had toxemia after having my sister.
