Q: Why would my levels be slightly higher after 2 hours than the 1 hour in my 3 hour glucose test?

Yesterday I took the dreaded 3 hour glucose test because I failed my 1 hour.

My levels came back
Fasting: 90
1 hour: 165
2 hour: 169!!!
3 hour 90

Because of the weird 2 hour I have to repeat the test in a month (I took it early). If anyone out there has a better understanding of glucose metabolism than I and can explain why after 2 hours my blood sugar would actually be higher than after 1 hour, I would be very appreciative. Looking at the numbers I'm feeling a little bit like a metabolic freak.

Maybe they mixed up the vials, I have no idea how that would have happened as I saw her label all of them, but I suppose it could. I have been walking but perhaps I need to do more and step away from that scoop of ice cream!

Actually looks more like the lab had a boo boo and mixed up the vials, the number would be normal if one and two were switched, but they can't assume a human Error just in case so you have to do it again, it look like your levels would pass since the normal ranges are usually set at
Fasting 95, 1hr 180, 2hr 155, 3hr 140
If two values are equal.or above then you are diagnosed with gestational diabetes, if only one is above then you are told to watch your diet and exercise to manage slightly elevated sugar levels. I would personally take the results as a warning sign since with or without being a metabolic freak ;) you failed one so I would be eating more like a diabetic would and doing pregnancy friendly exercise like walking, swimming etc better safe than sorry, and better for you and baby. But for now just keep things normal until the next test so you don't influence the results and test negative if your actually positive. Best wishes to you and your little one!
