Q: Cough medicine while pregnant and have asthma?

I am 32weeks and have a bad chest cold and cannot stop coughing (especially at night) and was wondering if anyone knew of a cough medicine that is safe to take while pregnant? I also have asthma and know that there are some medications that I should not take because of this. Has anyone else had a chest cold and been told by their doctor or midwife something they could use to get some type of relief?

Thank you for your input. I have decided to take the safe route and just use a humidifier at night and a some cough crops during the say (I was also told that they were safe). Feeling a little better today after using the humidifier last night!

My doctor said plain robitussin is fine. But, when I was put on antibiotics they told me just cough drops. I just got over bronchitis so I know the feeling :( good luck!

Maybe ask a pharmacist? I talked to one recently when I had a bad cold and I remember she said that I could take DM for coughing after the first trimester. I decided against it because I'm paranoid, but this still means there are options. I wouldn't want to give you medical advice, but I'm sure a pharmacist could recommend a specific product. Good luck!
