Q: Heart Rate Dopplers

So we ended up ordering the Sonoline B and I received it yesterday when I was 9w5d. We couldn't, for the life of us, find baby L's heart rate when we tried it last night. We found mine but not the babies. Any tips? I'm hoping it's just a combination of me still being early (it did say it can detect it starting at 8 to 10 weeks though) and the fact that I'm plus size as I refuse to think the worst because I'm not sure how great they work.

Sorry you couldn't find it yet! Fingers crossed for a happy and healthy little peanut at your ultrasound! :)

If it makes you feel any better. I am almost 21 weeks and it took me a min to find the heartbeat yesterday. It freaked me out because normally I find it immediately. Once I found it I realized the reason I was having a hard time was because baby was moving all over the place. I would find it for a second and then he/she would move.

Thanks ladies. Tried two more times and still can't find it. I just hid it in the closet for now and will try it when I'm further along. Right now I'm just going to let nature takes it course and let the Doctor's do their jobs. I can't keep getting all worked up, frustrated and nervous. Just going to relish in the fact that I'm pregnant. I will say though that I CANNOT WAIT for my 12w5d ultrasound/1st trimester screening. If all is well we're telling the world!!!

I agree with all the other ladies and you really wouldn't believe at how low you have to look for it! I was 12w when I got mine and it was still very low. Don't worry, give it a couple weeks and you'll find it. Once you do, you should find it everytime easily.

have a Sonoline B. It took me a long time to find the heartbeat the first time I used mine. It took between 5-10 min and I had to press REALLY hard (I have a little extra cushion there ;). It worked for me to hold the wand in one place, press really hard and then slowly tilt the wand in different directions without sliding the wand. I think that early on I found the heart beat right at my pubic hair line.

I remember worrying until I found it so hopefully your second go around works out better. :)

There is a great YouTube video of how to do it! I was almost 12 weeks when we got ours and it took a long time and a lot of pressing to find it. So much so, that my belly was a little tender after. Some women say it works better with a full bladder, personally, I always found the heart beat better when mine was empty, so try it both ways. Don't get discouraged. Take a break after 10 mins of trying and come back later. I always had the best luck first thing in the morning before I consumed anything. Good luck!!

Aim the probe down towards ur tailbone and press hard. Its still early so u wont be able to just have it lightly sitting on the skin, u have to press. And when u move it, move the probe in a circle without moving from the spot its on, then move it over 1/2" and repeat. Start just off the center line right above the pubic bone, and use a tonne of gel. Try both laying down and sitting up partially. Try with a full bladder as well, that pushes the uterus up a bit which may help. It's gonna be hard to find and easy to lose, even moving mm's will cause u to lose the HB. Keep trying, it's there! Ur gonna love that doppler!! =))

They do work great but you are still very early to be checking with a doppler.
I wouldn't check until you're at least 11-12w. My doctor's office won't even use the doppler til at least 14w as it's hard to get a reading from 10-13w, some women will still have their uterus tucked into their pelvis. Mine popped up early with my first child, but I'm 12w with my second and it still hasn't popped up yet.
