Q: Weight loss in early pregnancy?

My morning sickness just started yesterday, and I am 7 weeks today. But I am loosing weight, instead of gaining. I know I shouldn't gain a lot, but I figured I would stay the same instead of loosing. is this safe for the baby? I eat healthy, and take my prenatal and get plenty of exercise from chasing my 2 year old around.

I lost around 14 pounds in my first trimester. I only started gaining again when i hit around 18 weeks, however i am still about 7 lbs below where i started and am 23 weeks today. The doctor did not seem worried. I am not underweight to begin with through. If you are underweight then it might be more cause for concern.

I actually lost about 20 lbs with my first pregnancy. I had horrible morning sickness the entire pregnancy and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes around seven months, so I had to watch my diet carefully and make sure to exercise. My weight stayed the same the entire time with my second pregnancy. In both cases, my doctor was okay with it because I was still eating enough calories and a healthy diet. If you have concerns, you can definitely talk to your doctor, but it is pretty common to lose weight in the first trimester.

It is perfectly safe. A lot of women don't even gain until the end of their second trimester. I had lost about 10 pounds this pregnancy. If have since gained it back.
