ERC's Birth Story
I was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia in mid-February and was in and out of the hospital over a two-week period. I began to have trouble breathing and was admitted to the hospital again on the morning of February 29. I was only 29w6d pregnant but the doctors decided I needed to deliver the baby. We were planning to start the induction process but first, I was given a rapid-acting blood pressure pill. My pressure dropped too much too quickly and wreaked havoc on my body. The induction plans were scrapped and I was rushed in for an emergency c-section when my baby's heart rate began to match my own. When the anesthesiologist tried to intubate me it was discovered that I had fluid in my lungs, which is why I had difficulty breathing. Since I was under general anesthesia I wasn't awake when she entered the world and due to pain medication & magnesium sulfate AFTER surgery, I wasn't able to get to the NICU to see my baby in person or touch her until she was over 30 hours old. I was discharged after 3 days. As of today, April 9, my daughter has been in the hospital for 41 days. We have no idea when she will come home. :(
