Zachary Edward's Birth Story

Saturday, 12/8, contractions started to intensify and became less like Braxton hicks which I had for a few weeks. They were about 10 minutes apart and started about 10 pm. I rested on the couch for awhile and then went to bed to wait for the contractions to get closer. I was woken up several times by them so I knew it wouldn't be long.

Sunday, 12/9, contractions started to get closer together and increasingly more uncomfortable. I also lost my mucus plug at 6 am. I waited throughout the day for the contractions to get closer together. At 2:30 pm I called the OB office to ask when I should go to the hospital. The OB on call wanted to see me because she couldn't tell over the phone how fast I was progressing. I went to labor & delivery but I was only 1-2 cm but 80-90% effaced. OB saw bloody show and that my contractions were intense and regular. She wanted me to go home but return in a few hours because I was a VBAC they want me on a monitor in active labor. I went home to eat and wait for my Dad to come watch my DD for the night. I got to the hospital at 7 and my contractions had started to intensify. By 10 I had my epidural in place. The OB checked me and I was 3-4 cm so she decided to break my water to get things going. Through the night I made little to no progress.

Monday, 12/10, at about 5 they decided to start Pitocin because my contractions were spaced and not regular, I also was only 5-6 cm and baby wasn't moving down. By 9:30 I had made no progress and the next OB had let me know it was time to consider a C-section. I was bummed but consented. Baby was not descending and even if I waited I was not guaranteed to deliver vaginally which I experienced with my DD. 10 am my hubby suited up for surgery and I was wheeled to the OR. 10:34 am Zachary Edward made his grand entrance into the world.

Although not in my birth plan, I am recovering nicely from the c- section.

The first few weeks were really hard. But we're doing much better! She really is a well behaved baby. She has her moments of course, but overall she's an angel! It's been a bit harder for me to adjust. I thought it would all feel easier than what it does (just be truthful). I'm getting better with time and now we're finding a good routine so that's nice. I live an hour from all my family and friends so I've made several drives in with her and it's tough when she screams in the back and I can't go sit back there and console her! So now I get afraid to travel too far alone with her. It may be the holidays but I've been very emotional and have had some down feelings too, but I love my little girl so much. Every morning when I see here little smile, it makes my day!! How is it going for you?? Mommy of 2!
