To breastfeed or formula feed??
By momof3xo » Posted Jan. 18, 2016 8:17pm - 1083 views - 9 comments

With my daughter I never even tried to breastfeed.
I've been thinking a lot about it this time around. But I've read so many hard things about it. My daughter slept for atleast 5 hours as a baby. I'm afraid to breastfeed and be constantly feeding all day and night. I've read the baby can take anywhere from 45minutes - 1 hour to nurse. Then you have to nurse again in another couple hours because breast milk digests much faster than formula... To be honest, I don't think I want the baby attached to my breast all day and night like that... But on the other hand, it's something I really want to try and do... I'm just so confused... People tell me not to because it's very difficult and stressful. Then people tell me I should because it's so much better for the baby.
I don't know what to do...
I would also want a pump because I would want my daughter to get a chance to feed the baby and as well with my boyfriend and other family members...
I just don't know. I keep changing my mind...

I do think it could be hard with twins, but it cannot hurt to give it a shot. It can be time consuming in the beginning, but so can washing all those bottles. I loved breastfeeding! I cried when I had to wean my daughter. I found it easy to breastfeed, but that doesn't mean it will be that way with every child I have. I honestly hated pumping, but found no discomfort in nursing. It's also one of the most relaxing things you will ever do if you end up nursing, which could be nice while adjusting to 2 new babies. I mean better than any massage lol. As for how long they might nurse, at first it could be a while until they get it down. But then it's usually so quick and no clean up. Bonus! But if you can't do it that's OKAY!! If you think you want to do it then research it or ask questions. The more prepared you are the better your chances are of being successful/ meeting your goals.

Breastfeeding can be very tough! While it's definitely possible to breastfeed twins...it is tough. I tried it but had to switch to formula.

Breastfeeding is definitely tough, and I have to admit that there were some days when I just HATED it. I say, if you want to try it, try it. If it doesn't work out for you, formula is always an option! Do whatever works best for you and your family. My daughter recently weaned since my milk is dried up now, but when she was younger, I always gave formula when we were out unless I found a place where I could nurse her without people around me.

It should be whatever you want to do and whatever it best for you and your baby. I hate it so much that people are so opinionated on this subject. I tried breastfeeding and it just wasn't for me. Do what makes you happy.

It is hard, and sometimes stressful, but I loved every minute of nursing my daughter. She had issues with latching and I have Celiac's which makes milk production less, so I was only able to nurse exclusively for about 6 weeks before we started supplementing with formula. Just remember, it is your decision and you are the best momma your baby will have. You will be feeding the baby either way and giving them a chance to grow.

Oh and she doesn't take that long to feed either. In the early days it took about 20 minutes. Now she can finish both sides in 10 minutes or less.

Why does it have to be one or the other? You could try combo feeding. You could give formula when you are out and about and before bed but breastfeed at home other times of the day. As long as baby is healthy and gaining weight that's all that matters. The first 2 weeks I breastfed and supplemented with formula but once my milk supply was good, baby was latching well and I felt comfortable I dropped the formula. You can continue to combo feed though as long as you want. Breastfeeding is tough for about the first month or 2. Once you stop feeling sore and engorged it's super convienent to have baby's food with you all the time, no mixing or heating or bottles to clean. You do have to feed more often, my daughter eats every 2 hours still at 6 months and has from day 1. However she doesn't eat every 2 hours all night. From birth til 8 weeks she would get at least one 4 hour stretch at night but then at 8 weeks she started sleeping 6-7 hours at night and now she sleeps 9-10 hours.

I agree with stillfuntryin...it is very hard work especially in the beginning but the rewards are awesome. There were many times in the beginning that I just wanted to quit because it was hard but I am glad I kept with it and was able to bf my daughter for a while. I ended up loving it so much! Ultimately, you need to choose whatever works best for you. Either way baby will get the nutrition he or she needs so don't stress out too much about it :) GL!
