Whoever said "There's no use crying over spilled milk"....

...is a jerk. That person has obviously never pumped only 4.5 ounces of breast milk over 2 days only to watch their husband spill the entire bottle of it all over the baby and the floor in the middle of WalMart. It took me 2 days of pumping every 2-3 hours during the day and every 4-5 at night to get that much milk (obviously not including the very small amounts I have been able to give to Valerie when she actually gets latched on), and it only took my husband 5 seconds to dump it all. It was an accident (the top of the bottle came unscrewed in the diaper bag), but still. I cried, in the middle of the store, to the point where I have a migraine now. I think about it, and I want to cry some more. I felt (and still feel) defeated. It took me so long to get that bottle of milk and in the blink of an eye, it was gone before I could even give it to my daughter. :'(

Last night was also not a good night. I spent 4 hours in the ER with my youngest son. He wasn't feeling well all day yesterday, but he suddenly spiked a fever around 3. It was 101.7 when we checked it, and in the half hour it took to get myself and him ready and to the ER, it climbed up to 102.7. Turns out the snotty monster of a cold he has turned into pneumonia and he has the beginning of another ear infection. My poor boy was downright miserable all night. He was sweltering hot to the touch and covered us both in sweat while we were at the hospital. He did not like being poked and prodded at, and he definitely did not like the chest xrays or the antibiotic shot they gave him, but he is feeling somewhat better today. He's been smiling and giggling and playing. He's still not feeling 100%, I wouldn't even say he's feeling 75%, but it's definitely better than yesterday's blank stares.

Valerie had her newborn check up this morning. She's up to 7lbs 14oz after dropping to 7lbs 12oz at her weight check Friday. She has to go back next Thursday for another weight check and has to weekly until she is back at her birth weight. She also has an appointment Wednesday with the ENT for her lip tie. I'll be going solo to that WITH my 1 year old AND 5 year old, as my husband can't take anymore time off. (He took today to help with the kids since Brandt is so sick.) I have no one to babysit them so close to Thanksgiving, and the only person who could has children and I don't want to risk getting them sick. =/

Oi. It's only Monday and already this week sucks. I think I'm just going to snuggle with my babies and make the most of it.

MalPal, thank you. Breastfeeding wouldn't be so bad if I had a baby who would actually get on the boob. Instead, I am stuck pumping (again), having no luck with it, and am giving WAY more formula than breastmilk. I'm all for feeding the baby however you can, but damn.

Pbc, I am still really upset about it. I am giving Valerie mostly formula already, as I am just not getting much with pumping. I started taking my fenugreek today to help my supply, but I see going to just formula in the near future. If it's this upsetting for me with just one baby, I can't imagine feeling like this with 2. I hope it gets easier for you.

OMG I would have died. I tried pumping today and could hardly get anything. I know that pumping isn't necessarily indicative of milk supply but I already feel defeated supplementing with formula so I was hoping pumping would be successful. I am finally becoming more open to the idea of formula as it is just easier with 2 babies. I hope to at least give them enough of my milk to help build up their immune systems and give them the base benefits of breastfeeding. But it's so f'n frustrating. Glad your son is feeling better!!!!

So sorry about the breast milk. I'm so nervous about this whole breast feeding business. Hope tour little guy feels better soon! Glad Valerie is doing well though and good luck with the lip tie appointment.
