4 Weeks - First GP Appointment
By Rhid78 » Posted Oct. 21, 2013 3:18am - 210 views - 0 comments

We had our first GP appointment this morning - my doc was so happy for us and even commented how fertile we were! lol. She sent me off for bloods & asked again of our preference between using the public or private system for the pregnancy and delivery. Last time we opted to go private, but this time we've actually come about face and decided on public.

The only real difference from what I can gather, is that if we go private (as I have private health insurance), we will be out of pocket around $3,000 - $3,500 dollars. Only the hospital stay and birth expenses are covered - all the OB prenatal appointments are not and are therefore out of pocket. If we go public, it won't cost us a cent. Kind of a no brainer really... So public it is. Also, our public hospital has a brand new birthing centre too :-) Actually I lie - the other difference is that I will be seen to by midwives unless we encounter a complication. I'm ok with that! It's rare for your OB to actually attend the birth anyway unless you need to be wheeled into surgery. We're happy with our decision.

My doc also agreed to an early ultrasound at 6 weeks - yay! We are going back to see her next Monday, so a week away, for all the blood test results and for our referral to the public hospital and of course the first ultrasound. I actually educated my doctor today - she'd never heard of the MaterniT21 test. It is relatively new in Australia I guess, but still! I told her she will be referring me for that in due course haha. So all in all, a good first visit!

I have felt like a hungry hippo all day today! Shocking, it really is. I had my 3 weetbix at 6.30am then a banana after the doc appointment at 9.15, then when I got to work at 9.30 I had two pieces of toast covered in avocado (craving satisfied and it was beyond delish!), at 10.15 I had my yoghurt and then at midday I had my leftover fried rice that I cooked up yesterday plus a handful of chicken crispee chips followed by a small cherry ripe at around 3pm for a bit of a sugar kick. Any wonder I feel huge!!

I think my body has just picked up where it left off from last time, which means I am severely bloated and look about 4-5 months pregnant. Today I am very much thankful for my elastic waisted pants! hahaha.

Of course, I'm now hungry again - we're having chicken schnitzel with a creamy mushroom sauce and veggies! Yum!!

Until next time...
