Sick/Scared

It is 2:30 am and the pain in my chest and throat have woken me up for a third night in a row.

Basically I have been doing everything i can to get rid of this monster sickness that has taken up residence in my body.

I have had a cold a number of times but generally I am pretty healthy. If I wasn't pregnant I would not be worried. Take all the anti-histamines, sudafeds, nyquils, whatever possible.

If you guys haven't gotten sick in your pregnancy yet, just dont.

Being sick and pregnant is by far one of the worst things that has ever happened to me. I am not kidding. I have taken only a few things to try and feel just a slight bit better:

1. Robutussin, the regular sugar free one'
2. Tea and other hot liquids with lemon and honey
3. Tylenol (when the pain in my throat and head are bad or my temp went up just a bit.

What is scaring me is that my cold has entered what I call the "iffy" stage. Its when it goes to your chest and it is very iffy that you may develop bronchitis or a chest infection.

The doctor originally told me I probably had a sinus infection, but "probably" was not good enough for me to take antibiotics. Dude, sorry, unless someone is like "you need medication take it", I am not doing that. I don't want to start that wiith a little baby inside me, even if they say it is safe.

I can't remember but I think the cold usually progreses to the cough/yellow phleghm stage around day 4-5 which is where I am at. I am still blowing clear from my nose it is just the chest goo that turns yellow.

If anyone has experienced this/is experiencing this please let me know I am not along and that baby will come through this too.

Should I go back to the Doctor? Call OBGYN? What can they even do for me?

:(

I am right there with you. I have been fighting a cold for 2 weeks now and I caved this past weekend and took cold meds. (Tylenol Cold and Sinus) During the day, I'm starting to feel better, just a cough and minimal congestion. But nights are still horrible. I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Thanks so much girls. I took the meds this morning so I am hoping for a little relief tonight when sleeping. I know now I am better off taking them becauase getting worse is worse for the baby. Thank you again for the advice!!

I agree with KenpoMommy, unfortunately when I was 10 weeks I had an respiratory tract infection.I couldn't sleep with all the coughing and I always ended vomiting.I kept holding back not taking the antibiotics but I was actually making it worst.Anyway as soon as I took them I got better and they were perfectly safe.

I got a horrible respiratory infection when I was about three months along. I was REALLY sick for about a month! There are a lot of safe prescription drugs the dr can give you if you're really miserable. Don't hesitate to go! My dr was able to prescribe me a couple of things to make me more comfortable, and there are lots of antibiotics that are completely safe too if you need that. Don't put off going because you're pregnant. Women think they are protecting their babies by refusing meds, but if you let it go and it gets worse, you may end up needing something more heavy duty than you would have if you had taken care of it early on. Being sick while pregnant is the worst, but not usually damaging to the baby in any way. I hope you feel better soon :-)
