Update!

Hubby and I drove out to Michigan this weekend to house hunt. We drove 4.5 hours the first day, stopped over and slept, and then the rest of the 5 hours the second day. It really worked out well as far as the drive was concerned, I only had bad leg (sciatica) pain on the first day so that wasn't too bad!

When we got to Michigan, at first glance, I was not happy about the area. It wasn't a bad area and it was very built up, but it wasnt what I was expecting. I think I was expecting lakes and trees right off the highway lol, but that did not happen.

So the first day we saw 4 houses. They were awful. Not my realtors fault, I picked them. I am a sucker for a fixer upper (now I will have the song from Frozen in my head, thanks Disney), but these were just ridiculous lol.

We saw a 4th house and really liked it, but the outside seemed to have some drainage issues and the house was a little too expensive. We returned back to our hotel very dissapointed.

The next day, went to see about 5 houses. The first was okay...then the second was great. We loved it! We even talked about putting an offer but agreed to see more homes. The third house was HUGE...incredible. We loved it right away, and then went to see one last house that could not compare. Immediatly we went back to the office and made an offer.

Long story short, we didnt get the house. We offered them asking price, with no concessions. We have conventional financing so I could not see a reason why we wouldnt get it. It turned out that the sellers agent is a giant horses ass, and used our offer to get a better one from buyer #1, and the seller accepted their offer. I even sent them a nice letter that I was expecting, etc, knowing they have 4 kids. The sellers agent royally screwed us, and did not follow realtor code of conduct to give all parties a chance to offer best and final. He even went as far as to tell our realtor that we probably have the house and not to worry, but meanwhile waiting for changes to come back from buyer 1 with a sweet above asking price. My husband and I are going to report him to the association of realtors.

Yesterday I was devastated. But quickly picked myself up and we decided to make an offer of the first home we really liked and hope we get it.

In our nervousness, we hired a lawyer this time. I am not about to get pushed around again and do not want to go through this bullshit again on another offer. We offered a little below asking, so I am hoping for a counter. At this point, if we don't get it, we will have to rent (and renting is NOT cheap), but we will make due if we have to.

Lesson learned...trust no one. I hope people in Michigan aren't jerks. Maybe people in Jersey aren't as bad as I thought. And what makes it worse is they all thing we talk like staten island folks, which I certainly don't. I might have a slight accent in the way I saw "coffee" but sue me, I will be that Jersey girl and I will represent. We will show these realtors DON'T MESS WITH JERSEY!

lol

Ok so im a little bitter. But I am okay.

Fingers crossed Torin isn't homeless when he is born! We are giving everything we have to make this work so I hope we get this house!

Krod I can't believe you went through almost the same thing! That is ridiculous! We will report this realtor as soon as this deal is complete, as I don't want to piss off the broker if it is someone who is fond of this agent. Unfortunately, our realtor and him work in the same office. It is a crazy market to buy a house right now! Unfortunate timing for many of us :(

omg that happened to us on a house prior to the one we ended up with. The Realtor did the same thing, used us and didn't allow the seller to really see all the offers, we also reported him and guess what, the house fell out of escrow and is back on the market again but this time a different Realtor. I can't help but think it was for the best, we ended up in a better house anyways, so my fingers are crossed for you guys that you will have a similar situation.

I live in Michigan! Metro Detroit. The areas and people are all variable. I feel like that's true of anywhere though. Welcome to "The Mitten!"
