33 Week Update - Blood Pressure Issues
By mcorinnes » Posted Oct. 1, 2015 4:07pm - 377 views - 3 comments

The last 2 weeks have been a bit chaotic. It started off at my 32 week appointment (09/24/2015). My blood pressure read a little high. It was reading 124/85 which puts me at risk for preeclampsia. Anything over 120/80 is considered high in pregnancy IF you do not typically run in that area anyways. My normal blood pressure runs 104/65 so that was bad for me and she said it had been creeping up the last few appointments. My doctor ordered blood tests to see what was going on. Everything came back normal but she still wanted me to cut back on salt, drink more water and put my feet up at least 3 times a day for an hour or more each time.
On Friday, that same week, I started to develop a very sharp pain under my right breast just below the ribs. It felt like a ripped muscle but It happened while I was sitting still in a movie theater so I could rule that out and I also knew it was not my daughter. I would have felt SOMETHING in order for her to hurt me as bad as this pain was.
I waited until Saturday morning to see if the pain was still there. It was so I decided to call my doctor just to make sure it was normal. For some reason, the doctor on call that weekend never called me back… not sure what happened there. In the meantime, the pain would come and go periodically but when the pain was gone, it was gone. There was no tenderness like a sore muscle.
On Monday, 09/28/2015, a nurse called me and asked if the doctor had ever called back. I explained that they had not so she asked what the issue was and advised that she would talk to the doctor on staff and call me back shortly. Within 5 minutes, she had called me back. She advised that my doctor was out of the office but we should set up an appointment for when she was back on Wednesday, yesterday.
At the appointment with my doctor yesterday, 09/30/2015, my blood pressure had gone up again. I was reading at 136/88 which is VERY high for me. She felt around the area of pain and did not find anything. But because of the blood pressure, weight gain and complications at the beginning of pregnancy, she had me sent over to the hospital for a NST, blood work and an ultrasound. She stated that she was very concerned about the drastic raise in blood pressure.
So, I spent the day at the hospital, hooked up to the fetal monitor and giving them blood and pictures of my insides, our BEAUTIFUL baby girl included!!!! She was PERFECTLY healthy measuring 5lbs 2oz at 33 weeks 2 day. All in all, Jeremy and I ended up being there for about 3.5 hours. The doctor advised that they had found a slight restriction in one of the vessels leaving my kidney (pretty common in the third trimester) and ordered me to drink my more water. She stated that this, along with the way my organs have been positioned by this pregnancy, are the causes for the pain. I have a lot going on in the area of the pain. Apparently Madilynn decided that ALL of my organs needed to be pushed in the same spot on top of my lungs. Love my little girl.
As for the blood test, everything came back normal. With that said, my doctor assumes that my body is trying to become preeclamptic. She has ordered me to be on half days at work to allow myself proper time to elevate the feet and relax. I am on normal activity, but advised to do less of the normal activity, take frequent breaks and elevate feet.
It has been a rough week but all in all, baby is healthy and that is what truly matters. I want nothing more than to see our little angel come into this world healthy and happy. This momma just needs to take it easy for her little girl.

So good that everything is ok with the little! It's a good thing you have such a handle on your blood pressure and know what's high and low for you because most people have no idea! I hope the resting helps and you don't have to worry bout preeclampsia.

You need more than a couple hours feet elevation. I would need a vacation after all that!
