This weekend at 32 weeks my wife and I decided to jump in the car and drive to California to have one last getaway weekend as a childless couple. We also planned to have a bit of a beach maternity photo shoot. The weekend was truly bitter sweet. We had a lot of fun, a bit tiring for me, but a lot of fun! We stayed in the LA area and hit some really nice beaches that we hadnt been too such as Redondo beach and the Redondo Pier, to Manhattan Beach, and Venice Beach. My favorite was Manhattan Beach and SO want to move to that area! That beach was clean and really nicely kept up with along with the gorgeous beach front houses. We started the day with driving in and checking into our hotel to drop off our stuff and to the beach we went at Redondo. Since it was close to sunset we needed to hurry and get some silhouette shots of me and my belly with the ocean in the back ground. Afterwards we just relaxed on the blanket enjoying the last of the sun and the sound of the waves. After we were to go to the hotel to change for dinner since I had gotten my long skirt wet and sandy but on the way back we found the Pier and couldnt tear away to go to our room. At this point my dress was dried and no traces of sand so I was good. There was a ton of little shops to peek in, smells of different foods, and live music at almost every corner. We passed by the fisher men that were fishing at the Pier and little kids running around playing. We ended up having dinner at this thai/cajun spot where we indulged in 2 buckets of Cajun shrimp and clams! So yummy!!

The next day I woke early because I wanted sunrise shots of maternity pictures. I also wanted some shots of me at the edge of the ocean. We headed to Manhattan Beach this time and fortunately there wasnt many surfers out practically making our spot on the beach our own. The shots we got that morning are breathtaking and tear jerking. We even managed to get a couple shot with me making a heart with my hands on my belly and my wife in the back holding us both. Even remembering the photo now brings tears to my eyes! I faced my slight fear of the ocean and sat at the edge to get a couple water shots with my skirt floating in the back. In the end we got some great shots and cant wait to develop them and hang them in Elis room so that we can see that we SO loved him way before he was even born and here with us. We ended the afternoon with hitting the Grove in LA to hang out with some friends that came up that day from our hometown and off to the sunset we left to go back home. I feel exhausted as I type this but totally worth it. Next time we head to Cali it will be with our son Eli for his many 1sts!!
