Anemic...Still...

Well I knew it couldn't be anything good seeing as I only had the blood test done less than 24hrs ago and the drs are already calling. Despite being on extra iron my levels have dropped from hb <110, the cut off to hb <102.
So upping it to double dose with instructions that if the symptoms creep back then I have to go for hospital treatment which I guess is transfusion and that I'm at risk of preterm birth if it does get worse but she thinks this should sort it until baby arrives so not to worry too much.
Going to wait for an hour as I just had a cereal bar and then I'll take that second dose.
Good thing I never listened to my midwife otherwise I'd be in hospital already.
Says a lot when you can't actually trust your midwife to do her job, I wonder if I can just go and see my Dr for my remaining appointments?

I must have missed a comment or a journal entry somewhere, but what exactly did your midwife do(or not do)?

It is silly, I had noticed that she could never actually answer any of my worries, I have left three messages with her about another issue and she's not bothered calling me back. This was the last straw. Drs appointment next thursday hopefully she'll understand me not wanting to be seen by a midwife anymore.

I definitley think the doc is the route to go. Anytime your midwife or healthcare provider wont listen to you, and obviously you knew your body from the start. You need to seek other options for the health of yourself and your baby. I hope you begin to feel better with the upping your doses of meds.

Thanks totmama. I'm pretty confident this should sort it as i don't feel as bad as I did when I was low a few weeks back but I may request another test in a few weeks to keep an eye on it because I had no clue is dropped that low. Really don't want to put baby at risk. Also i think maybe I'm reading my supplements wrong. All I know is I have to take one prenatal plus 2 sachets of iron water, I will discuss my dosage when I see the dr *not the midwife* next weem.

Thanks hunni, I'm on liquid iron so no digestive issues for me luckily.
I'm assuming you're on a US measurement as my doses are a lot lower then that lol. I was on 15mg plus 5mg extra now that's 15 + 10mg. It's the breathlessness that told me I was anemic a few weeks back , couldn't breath and I knew baby had dropped so knew it wasn't that.

My blood showed boarderline anemic,(I'm sure once a day would surfice)but yet my midwife put me on 325mg of iron twice a day (650mg) plus whatever is in the prenatal vitamins....which I think is an additional 28mg. Whatever the case my be im ok with taking it in spite of the constipation because I've had server hemorrhaging in my last two pregnancies. I'm glad your doctor is on top of this and shame on the midwife for putting you and baby at risk.

Yikes!!! I have no idea what my levels are, but my doc has me on 650mg of Iron a day...I was so stopped up (still am sort of) that I am only taking 325mg every other day...I am not as tired as I used to be, but I couldn't take the pain of being constipated anymore...I hope your iron comes up and and you don't have preterm labor!!
