Baby Shower and Diabetes Classes

Yesterday I had my "Diabetes Education Class" with the nurses at the office. What a waste of my time that was, other than getting my prescriptions and thus cheaper testing strips there was absolutely nothing said I didn't all ready know. The entire "class" was a video aimed at what I can only assume is about a 6th grade learning level, in fact, it was very similar to videos they showed us in health class when I was in junior high school.

The meter they gave me uses the same strips as the meter I had, it's bigger than the meter I already have. So, because I had extra strips from before the script, and because I'm weird I guess. I decided I'd see how close they are to one another. The new meter gives 5mg/dl lower than the old one on all three tests I did side by side. I think that the new one probably more accurate as that'd be about a 20% difference on the high side for the old meter and about 20% on the high side is what I got on that meter vs the lab values at my last glucose test. I have to spend the majority of Saturday in the city doing correlation labs to make sure my meter is accurate. Hooray! I don't think I have ever heard of anyone having to do that, so either no one talks about it with their GD diagnosis or I am incredibly "lucky". I have to go there at 7am, do a fasting draw, check with my meter, then go eat and come back 2 hours later and do another draw and then go eat and come back 2 hours later to do another draw. I don't live FAR from the city but I live far enough where it's not going to be OK for me to drive home and then drive back, so I'm a little annoyed.

Supposedly they are referring me to a dietician, which I understand WHY they do that, but I actually do know how to eat like a diabetic. I was a Nurses Aide for years and I did attend Nursing School, like I ALMOST became an RN and decided it's not something I want to do. Also, the last time a Dr. referred me to a dietician it was a waste of time. They basically didn't say anything the app on my phone couldn't tell me, so I'm really looking forward to that.

It's my baby shower this Sunday! I'm excited to have a little party to celebrate my baby! At the same time, because of the GD testing I'm really not sure how that's going to work out with my glucose monitoring because it's a brunch. I'll likely eat breakfast when I normally do, but then I may eat "lunch" before I normally would and I think that's going to mess up my records. I guess I'll just tell the DR if they are high that, that's what happened.

The nursery is almost done, I just need to get a changing pad and cover and the sheets and what not for the crib, I'm picking up a cute little rocking chair from Ikea in the next week or two and it'll be all ready for baby Scarlett! Third Trimester!

Sorry about all diabetes stuff, but yay on your shower! What a nice way to get through an otherwise tedious weekend...:D.

That sucks you have to correlate your meter yourself. It seems like a lot of extra effort. I hope you have a fun party. Showers are pretty awesome.
