Annoyed!

So...for a few weeks I was having spotting on and off when I would wipe. I would say around week 5 on and off to week 9. My Dr said it's normal and not to worry. I was also a little "irritated" down there and asked if that could be why so he took a culture. Mind you...this was at 8 weeks. I never heard anything back from them saying the culture came back positive for anything and the irritation went away so I thought nothing of it. Well...I got the call yesterday (I'm not 11 weeks) from the office letting me know my culture came back positive for a yeast infection. 4 WEEKS LATER! I told the nurse on the phone that was awhile ago and I don't have any symptoms anymore but she said they were calling in 1 anti fungal antibiotic for me to take. Now...my question is...should I take it or not. I don't want to take anything I don't have to right now, especially since I'm not quite yet out of my 1st trimester and I (thank God) have not had spotting for 2 weeks. I'm just pissed that they are that clueless and busy that I have to keep on top of them constantly. Has anyone else had a yeast infection during the pregnancy?

That is really obnoxious! I would ask for a repeat test, to see if you still have an infection, and demand that the results be done rapidly (seriously, that shouldn't take more than a day or two at most). Here is no point taking anything if you don't have the infection anymore, that just seems really irresponsible of them!

Hmm, that's a tricky decision. If your culture came back positive for yeast, even if you don't have symptoms now, it would probably be best to take the treatment as yeast infections usually don't go away on their own. Maybe call the doctor back and ask him what the risks would be of taking it versus not taking it. And if you don't want to ask the doctor, you should ask the pharmacist. They are usually quite helpful. I had an issue with dry allergy eyes to the point that they were starting to take on an infection. When I called the nurses line they told me there was no drops I could take in the first trimester, then put me on hold to double check with another nurse. When she came back on the line, she said I could use Visine. I knew that didn't sound right. So I went to the pharmacist, who took the time to tell me why that wasn't a good idea (vein constricting chemical in Visine is harmful), and instead showed me two options I could use (lubricant only drops without harmful chemicals).
