First Appointment

Today was my first appointment with the OB office as they don't normally see you before 8 weeks. It started off with a sonogram that they use for dating purposes. The little bean measured right on track and had a heart rate of 171.

For reference, my son was a day ahead and 179.

I feel bad saying it, but the little bean didn't look like much. They only did an abdominal ultrasound, so the tech had to zoom way in. The granularity didn't help and with all the pictures on the internet, I had hoped for slightly more detail. BUT, when I look at the gallery here, what I saw was normal. I swear we saw hand and foot buds wiggling with my son though.

Then I get to hear how I'm AMA because I'll be 36 on my due date. But of course all the extra tests are optional and I'm not going to pay for that. My insurance wont. So, no Harmony or the like. Also, my anatomy ultrasound will be at a high risk office, just in case. Sheesh. But I get a 28 week ultrasound and more closer to my due date, so I shouldn't complain.

I might not get the ultrasound pic up here. The quality is just too rough, but I'll see what I can do.

Thinking of you ladies! I know others have their first appointment soon.

Join the high BMI club...that's the first thing I say when meeting with a new doctor, "yes I know...blah blah blah." Amazingly, my OB NEVER has brought up my weight, how much they think I should gain, and whether what I've gained is ok or not. I've gotten a spectrum of comments too the last couple of weeks from "you don't look that big" to "wow, you're enormous." Uh, thanks?!

lol Becca, technically I was called old and fat, because my BMI was over 30. I didn't really want to admit that I think I've gained 9 lbs in the last 2 weeks because of trying to keep the nausea at bay and sometimes eating 2 lunches... shh.

Steph, Apparently it is odd for them to not go a transvaginal ultrasound, but it is also rare that they hear the heartbeat. Fingers crossed that you get to see and/or hear your little bean!

Glad everything seems to be going great for you!! :) I hope I get to see my little bean on my Appointment on Thursday! I doubt I'll actually get an ultrasound, but I can hope, right? :)
