Spotting? Bleeding? IDK!!!

Well, I'm off to the Doctor this afternoon. I had some red bleeding w/some tissue or clots (black colored not pink or grey) and no cramping other than the same stuff I've felt all along. It's not enough to fill a pad or anything but it's red ... so, I'm not sure if it's spotting or bleeding or HOW to classify it. I'm just really scared and hope everything is ok. The Doctor is going to do an ultrasound to check on everything.
It started late at night on Tuesday, continued to Wednesday, and now today is light colored and brown. It seems like it comes and goes ... brown, red, brown, gone, red, brown, red, gone ... weird!
I've read that women who are RH+ (which I am) tend to bleed more during pregnancy ... also, that when the transition occurs where the placenta takes over it can throw hormones out of wack and make women bleed. I hope that's all it is.
