On oct 23, the day I'd been anticipating for weeks, my husband and I happily skipped to our 19 week ultrasound to find out the gender and see our baby move. The baby was so active, kicking and squirming and cupping it's hands around it's mouth. The tech went to talk to the doc and came back with the doc who then explained " your baby's brain has not developed".
At first I thought this meant we had a mentally handicapped child, which at that moment I was prepared to deal with and accept. My husband asked to simplify what she had said. She replied, " you're baby does not have his cerebral cortex. He is without his brain. He will not survive outside of the womb. This is very black and white. This pregnancy is fatal. I'm very sorry". It was then that I realized I'd most likely have to terminate my pregnancy. I immediately started crying. It was as if someone had removed my soul and my heart. I'd never felt so hollow and empty.
We asked to know the gender. He is a boy. We will name him Samual Stephen Connell. He will be born this coming week. I don't know how we will get through this, but we will.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I was in a similar situation two years agoâ?¦ our first baby's brain also failed to develop and I gave birth to her at 18 weeks. I know how crushed you must feelâ?¦ I know there is nothing I could say that would make things betterâ?¦ you will get through it. We are stronger than we think we are.
