Exempted from Fire Drill
As I type, I am the only one in this floor. Being pregnant, I am exempted from this fire drill, which requires climbing down the stairs and standing out for at least half hour. Poor MD has to go and be alone, that's the only bad part. :(

Bought Baby's First Outfit
So we were supposed to go shopping the previous weekend and lazy us had not. So right after work, we took off to Tom & Stefanie outlet in Tiong Bahru. First time in that mall. We ate and got fresh. Then headed to the store. Not as big as Kiddy Palace, but enough to choose from. We ended up buying 50$ worth of baby wear, including mittens and booties. All in all, we bought a white onesie, a grey striped romper, a yellow sleeveless tee and shorts, a green sleeved tee and shorts, a red bootie with rabbit heads, a plain blue bootie and mitten set, and finally a set of green cap, bootie and mitten. As we billed, we learnt most of them were for 3 to 6 months. But we didnt care. I felt so happy!!! Md got tired by the end, and so did I. But there was no stopping me. We shopped for more than an hour and got back home. :)

Daddy saw Baby Move
I had seen a few weeks ago, that my tummy shook when the baby kicked. But due to my huge boob size and the infrequency of his kicks, it was difficult to get MD to look and see this. In fact, I myself could not. But today evening, while we lay down in the evening, Md saw and felt his kick. The belly shook. And indeed, the kicks have been getting stronger and regular now. It was great to see Md's laughs, I wonder who the baby is! :)

Started Wearing Maternity Clothes
I choose this day, because now I have begun wearing kurtas in which I float. Mom brought me some more XL sized kurtas, and I finally decided to start wearing them. Only a month and half more to go at office. I look funny. But I don't care. :)

Fourth PreNatal Appointment
With mom and bro. The routine tests lady said I'm a lucky woman to have so many people. Weight gain only 1 kg. 1st BP measurement was very high, 150+. I'd been twisting and talking during it. 2nd measure very normal - around 124/89. Traces of albumin in the urine test - mom said its alright. New doc Natalie Chua, looked and behaved like YongLi. In her room on time, but made us wait extra 20 minutes. Doc said albumin traces were no issue. She did a quick rough scan, gel was hot this time. I hardly saw the baby clearly. She said everything looks fine. Mom asked about placenta and some other medical stuff. Both of them seemed displeased with each other. :D I was displeased because her measurements were hasty and rough. Scan estimated gestation of 22 weeks only - expected 24. Mom also made me show doc the skin peeling on my nipple. She put on a glove, gently prodded twice and said no lumps. She said its just dry skin and to use moisturizer. We got out, mom told me to eat better for growth.

Started Steroid Ointment
Finally, I showed mom the problem with my nipples. That day, it was so peeled that it was damp, like when skin has grazed off. And it had hurt terribly cos my dress was sticking on it loosely and making the pain worse. She saw, got worried and asked me to start using Keto ointment with Clorimetrazole. She said its better I get this fixed asap or else it would cause problems during feeding. After applying, it dried up soon and still continues as the dry scaling patch.

Mom Examines Baby - Heart Beat on Stethoscope
The first physical examination of my tummy as well as the first time we all got to hear the heartbeat faintly though her stethoscope. By feeling the uterus, she estimated about 24 weeks, which was spot on. And though the heartbeat is difficult to locate, we took turns hearing it though very faint.

Officially Applied Maternity/Unpaid Leaves
Me and DH sat together arranging dates to fit into our company's HR guidelines, applying a total of 40 days as maternity leave, 67 days as unpaid leaves and 6 days as annual leave. It was confusing and irritating, but had to be done and honestly, MD did most of the work.
P.S: Bonus and AWS will be prorated. So I guess I wont get even a month's salary as bonus.

Measured Bra Size
So finally, I got a tape and my hubby to measure my bra size, according to BabyCenter calculator.
34 inch chest, 31 inch rib, 43 inch bust.
My bra size was calculated as 34I, phew!

Stranger Recognized Me Pregnant
Ok, so I do get furtive glances form people seated in the bus, wondering if they should get up for me. But most of the time, they seem to be confused and undecided. I know the reason is because my boobs outsize my belly. And though I know my tummy is bigger and tauter than before, it may not yet be obvious to another person's eyes.
But today, when I was browsing though a cheap pair of shorts at a small store (during a snack outing from office with MD), the lady told me I might need these bigger ones, for my bigger tummy. I was sooo happy and excited she could know. But I did not want that dress and left with a smile. But she made my day! :)

Cracked Nipples
Ok, so I had been having thrushing, or skin peeling in my nipples for the last month or so. My mom had advised to apply coconut oil and NEVER peel. But there was this patch, which used to get really dry on my left nipple-aereola junction. And it was fun and soothing to pull this dry skin out. The itchiness reduces and resumes after a while. So last week, I had been pulling this dry rough skin out every time and a new patch would grow. But today, I found after I peeled that the region looked sore, wet and kind of oozing a pus-like wetness. So I am stopping this peeling now. And going to sit through and see how this gets better. Right now, another yellow dry patch has grown over, but am leaving it as such and not risking another tear.

First Tummy Rubbing
I had just read in WhatToExpect that by now, some one would have already rubbed your belly. And I was thinking how my lack of friends or family around was a reason I never experienced that.
But right at lunch that day, Revathi rubbed my tummy, saying I am finally showing a bit. She was with Roshan and we were chatting as lunch got heated. She said she was thinking I dont look preg yet and suddenly that day, she felt she could see the tummy. I was wearing a loose maroon top, but I guess tummy was finally showing out from below my gigantic boobs.

Health Screening At Work
Me and MD got the IHP health screening basic package - sponsored by the company. The basic checks were done quite efficiently at ground floor, with some super equipment like doing BP measurements from phone! Most of my team mates too got it done.
Some stats:
Height - 158 cm (yay!!3 cm more than I thought)
Weight - 66.2 kg (different scales different readings)
B.P - 119/79
Blood sugar and cholesterol - will be mailed.
We were asked to have fasted to get accurate cholesterol levels, but i mentioned I was expecting and so could not skip meals. MD was on fast. Except for his weight, everything was fine too.

First Baby Shopping
Well, as can be expected from a couple like us, we did not do any actual purchasing. But did a lot of serious window shopping. Checked out clothes, prices, materials, toys etc at Kiddy Palace in Toa Payoh. This was part of our weekend walk. We almost bought stuff, then decided to come back for them later. All cute onesies, bodysuits and stuff. We even saw nice maternity underwear, dresses and breast pumps, all at exorbitant prices. But it was fun and even MD enjoyed for a while! Then, my bowels moved and I had to go find a bathroom. We left, empty handed but with lots of joy!
Note: We did go to Mustafa right after our May 29 scan and browse through the little tots section there too. But on that day, we had no intention of buying at all.

Half Way There
We did not do anything specific, except stay happy and cozy together all weekend, reading, in bed or watching movies. But boy, are we glad to be here at this point and feel the little baby flutters and movements. MD sings a lot to him now. He felt a kick when he sang some Kamal Haasan movie song, he he. :D

Picked a Name
Siddharth. Well, the name was already in place. But I guess this could be the day it can be declared as officially picked. After knowing the gender, we did not have much left to decide. I pick this day though, because MD announced the name to his family today. Over a Skype session. I think I will tell my mom only later, maybe when she comes here.

Found Out Baby's Gender
Its a boy!! I thought it would be a girl, for no apparent reason. But turns out to be a boy. Ha, I hope he will be loving and kind, charming and witty, smart and sweet! So welcome Siddharth Mahadevan.
This was during the anatomy scan. And doc asked if we wanted to know. We said yes. And she showed on screen. As the photo suggests, she did not have to explain much! :)

Announced Baby's Gender to Family
So as is obvious, we don't wait in sharing good news! We called up right away and announced the gender. My mom gave a slight chuckle, then her caution kicked back in and she warned us about how the umbilical cord can lead to wrong conclusions etc. MD called up his mom, sis and dad to tell them. When we scanned the scan images, MD e-mailed it to my brother and dad too.

Third PreNatal Appointment
Did the routine tests. Forgot the exact figures, but BP and Urine test for Sugar and Albumin measured to be normal. BP about 116/66.
Doctor read the scan report and said everything is alright. Fixed the next set of appointment dates. Apparently, she will not be around for the next and I have to see another doc. I told her about the sound in my ear, she said it must be the after effect of flu. As usual, a normal appointment of about 2 minutes. We got a copy of the scan report and took off to celebrate our boy!!! :)

Fourth Ultrasound - Anatomy Scan
Much anticipated, but not as restlessly awaited. I guess, the tummy had become taut and slightly big, so I was not worried.
But our scan was interesting. This time, no delay. We got there early morning at 8.30. Had a quick bite, yummy McD breakfast. The scan took quite a while. The doc checked everything from kidneys, arteries, eyes, lips, nose, arms, legs etc. Too many things for me to keep track of. Baby was again facing down and lying for this scan also. So to check the heart chambers, baby was in a position such that she took a while to get the reading. Doc got me to cough, and not gently beat my belly around quite a lot, in an effort to make the little one move. But in vain. Looks like our lethargic genes have passed on in tact. :)
Everything normal, yippee!

First Scare - Brown Patch on Pants
As the event name suggests, MD and I were returning from a joint bathroom trip, back to the bedroom to resume our movie. Suddenly, his face got all tensed and he asked me to check my pants. On the behind were 2 big brown circles, exactly the kind I'd get when a period starts and reaches the pants. He was worried. And so was I a little, when I saw them. But I was feeling dry generally. And an impromptu sniff brought the aroma of chocolate ice cream! We had it for lunch. It was hilarious and relieving at the same time. Science be praised!

Husband/Partner Felt Baby Move for the First Time
Finally MD got to feel the thuds. I was not sure if he would really be able to from outside, but the thuds seemed to be a little stronger today evening as I lie on the couch behind him at the laptop. So I asked him to cup my underbelly, quick. He is not a very patient fella. And well, he could feel. He felt 2 thuds, and the smile was broad! I'm glad to have brought it on his face. The little pleasures I find for myself like this are heartening. :)

First Illness During Pregnancy
Cold yesterday slowly developing into severe cold and maybe fever. Hope LO isn't affected! :(

On May 16, 2013 at 17 weeks 4 days pregnant
Heartbeat Buzzing in Left Ear
My first probable side effect of pregnancy. I began to hear this regular buzzing in my ear, in rhythm with my heartbeat. This was not irritating, but it was also obvious. And sometimes, when i give KT to colleagues, I feel this sound to be more pronounced.
Epilogue: This lasted for the remaining months.
I told my mom after a couple of days, she suspected wax and advised to ask my Gyno on May 29 appointment for drops.
Gyno said it must be because of the cold/fever I had a week back and to see if it goes in a week.
I told this to mom after a few weeks.
She asked the ENT at Koyili and he said to use no drops, but it is a common condition during pregnancy. It is caused by the increased blood circulation and is normal, like I suspected. :)

Felt My Baby Move for the First Time
Okay, not the real hard movements. But more like gentle knocks. So what I imagined last week may actually have been little movements, who knows. Now they are more regular and I feel at least a few knocks or thuds almost everyday, mostly before lunch hour. I feel great, that the little baby is fine in there and active. Hopefully active enough. Quickening, she said, when I told my mom. I don,t know if they are kicks or punches. More likely to be whole body thuds rather. As expected, DH is excited but sad he cant really feel them.

Tummy measure 1
With the paper tape from Ikea, we measured around my belly button - 33 inches. Definitely looks like its growing round and big.
I remember 5-6 years ago, in hostel, I had mine measured around 28 inches.

Imagined baby flutters :)
Okay, this maybe purely a figment of my imagination. But I felt a bubble pop in my abdomen while staring at my office PC after lunch. I listened hard, but it did not repeat. Then again, about half an hour later, I felt another gas bubble pop. It seemed lower in the abdomen, so I felt excited. Could have been something else entirely, because I felt nothing afterwards for weeks.

Used Pregnancy as Reason to Avoid X-ray
This checkup was at the luxurious Point Medicals, for EP renewal. These mandated blood test and X-ray. Doctor congratulated and exempted me from X-ray when told of the pregnancy. BP at 105/70.

Informed colleagues
As YongLi went on planning the Brutus activites til end of year, I told I will be on leave because of this good news I had to share. She and Preetha took it rather seriously, a curt congrats and told I don't look it. YongLi chatted me up about it as she was leaving to BBU though.

Second Prenatal Appointment
Nothing special, was not worried at all since we had our last scan only a week before. Doctor was late, but sweet. All blood tests for diseases returned negative. Healthy hemoglobin levels for me and MD. She scanned with her small machine to measure CRL. All fine so far. BP 111/69. Blood test hemoglobin 12.6, well in the healthy range 12 to 15. Mom remembered and was happy to hear the results.

Heard Baby's Heartbeat for the First Time
Via Doppler during NT scan. Heart beat sounded like quick thumps on a drum. This was followed by the test for blood circulation sounds, which was delightful whoosh whoosh swishing, like high force water through a tunnel.

Third Ultrasound - NT
Not much worried about Down syndrome as such, but more concerned whether baby was still fine. Especially after weeks of feeling absolutely fine and hardly ever feeling pregnant. I was my practical self again though. No tears. Yes, feels very nice each time to see the little one. This time, he was more human than ever. Nice head, clean hands, beautiful nose. Legs were not very visible, but doctor pointed it out. Saw and heard the wonderful heart beat. In the end, my little baby waved back at us with his perfectly fingered hands. That topped it. Measured CRL at 60mm.

Told My Boss About My Pregnancy
Had the discussion for Goal Setting for the year, hence blurted out to Devi the news and my plan to leave by mid August on leave. This was due to the high pressure and insult tactics from YongLi with the new WWS module and work load from DH Korea's Wongeun.

First Prenatal Appointment
After the first ultrasound fiasco with Dr.Adrian Woodworth, re-assured at KK Hospital with Dr.Wei Wei. Very organized and systematic, it made me feel at ease. No pressure, sugar, obesity. Dr.Wei Wei was cheerful, but we had nothing to say much to each other. Ultrasound was alright, so doctor was satisfied.

Second Ultrasound
Went to hospital with a full bladder, but emptied for urine test before the ultrasound. However, it did not matter. The doc prodded and we saw the sac. There was the baby inside, but I did not realize that was my first sight of the baby. I was searching for the elusive heartbeat. MD was smiling from cheek to cheek, but I did not think why. Then the doc showed us the heartbeat. Quick continuous flickering from one spot inside the baby. It was awesome. I could not hold back tears. My chest heaved, like it never has before. For the first time, I felt maybe even I am capable of love. Amazing to see that heart beat vigorously.

Saw Baby's Heartbeat for the First Time

First Ultrasound
An impatient MD and easily driven me decide to go for our first scan early, since KK hospital asked to wait till 8th week. I was 6 weeks then. Saw only the sac. And a bean inside which was too small to notice. Doctor was quick and did not even measure B.P. I left feeling alright, believing him when he said its too early. But MD and my mom were extremely disappointed and worried. I did not let that seep into me. We decided to go for second opinion at KK, and abandoned Woodworth.

Told Husband/Partner
We checked together. He awoke me in the middle of the night. I asked if he wanted dinner (we'd skipped that night) and he asked if I wanted to pee. I did not want to, but he meant pee to test now in stead of waiting till morning. It was unbelievable when the 2nd line appeared. Absolutely unbelievable. And only he and I will know why. Maybe Kiran doctor too. ;)
