Q: Deli meat no-no?

So I read that deli meat is bad for pregnant women & the babies due to potential listeria infections, mostly because deli meats aren't cooked. Well, this past week I've had a couple sandwiches with fully cooked deli turkey meat that, in addition, has been toasted. Is that okay? Or is it just cured meats that are the problem?

The reason they advise against deli meat, as I understand it, is because it sits in the deli case and could be growing bacteria. You can eat prepackaged meats from the supermarket. I ate a hot roast beef while prego and little one is here and fine. You should be fine but I would cut it out of your diet from how on. Good luck!

you're fine. deli meats are cooked but can still carry listeria before and after. This can be taken care of however by heating them through. With my first I was petrified because I ate a couple of hotdogs but w/ further reading I discovered it was fine...good thing too 'cause I CRAVE "EM! during pregnancy!!! I still try to limit them just because they're not great in general but if you want them just make sure they're good & hot & enjoy!!
