Q: Early pregnancy and severe tiredness

I know everyone's symptoms can be different from person to person, just wondering if anyone suffered from severe tiredness at between 8-9 weeks. I can hardly keep my eyes open and don't sleep properly through the night. Having said that I did fall in and out of sleep earlier today on the sofa, so it's not like I can't sleep. I just seem to be constantly tired, with or without sleep. I know things will start to get better in about 4 weeks, but I need some help in the meantime. I'm dreading going into work tomorrow and just not being able to function. I work on the phones so I have to be available, if that makes sense.
Since finding out I'm pregnant I hardly drink normal tea and I've been drinking decaffeinated tea, but not really enjoying it that much and haven't had any over the last few days anyway.
Just wondering if anyone has some advice to see if there is anything I could do to combat this or at least help it anyway

I was one of the lucky ones who escaped morning sickness while being pregnant, that being said: I was so exhausted that I literally slept every waking minute of the day. I would fall asleep between 7-730pm and sleep (broken sleep...getting up a few times throughout the night) until 6-6:30 in the morning. I would go to work, come home, nap from 5-5:45pm, get up, make dinner and start the cycle again at 7pm that evening. This lasted until I was about 15 weeks (sorry to say!) and then I started to get my energy back. Now, at 34 weeks, I am starting to re experience some tiredness, but NOWHERE near how tired I was in the beginning.

Some things that helped me: I had 1 cup of caffinated coffee/tea a day per the drs okay, I also excersized like a short walk in the morning and/or evening to help. I'm not sure how much these curbed my tiredness, but I may attribute some of my little energy to those 2 things :) I hope you start getting your energy back soon! :)

Sorry to hear you are suffering from this - I have low energy to begin with, and when pregnant, I just feel exhausted! It does usually get better after the first trimester. My doc told me 1 caffeinated beverage a day is totally safe (for me a diet coke in the morning to help). Also, with my first pregnancy, sometimes I would take those Emergen-C packets mixed with water to help give me an energy boost and I felt they really helped. I believe each packet contains 1000 mg of vitamin C and pregnant women shouldn't have more than 2000 mg a day. Check with your doctor first, of course!

Do they know you are pregnant at work? That is the worst time, when you are feeling bad and you can't tell anyone why!

Very sorry to hear that. I am not quite as far along as you, but already if I don't get a full nights rest I'm suffering the next day. Last night I only got 5 1/2 hours and I can barely keep my eyes open right now! My only suggestion I can offer is make sure you are eating healthy. Food can have a lot to do with your energy levels, and I already have a few foods that make me feel groggy and sick after I eat them. I hope it goes away soon!

Welcome to pregnancy my dear! Nope, not much you can do about it but get as much rest as you can, when you can. As for work, try to catch a cat nap in the car on our break and if someone catches you sleeping at your desk....raise you head & say Amen! Just make sure to catch the drool ;-)
