Q: Vacation next month. Can I..?

My husband, daughter, cousin, brother, and I are going to Tennessee next month for a vacation. We are planning on going horse back riding. We're going to go through a stable company where the horses are trained for horseback trail riding. I'll be about 9 weeks pregnant when we go. Would it be ok to ride a horse?

My friend is a horse rider and she was told it wasn't okay during pregnancy. Not for the riding, but in case something spooks the horse or the horse throws you or you fall off. She went to Gatlinburg a few weeks ago and wherever she went said they needed a doctor's note stating it is safe for her to go on the trails. In case something happens, they don't want to be held liable. I would just call your doctor and ask. They are there to answer your questions, afterall. That way you will know before you leave. Have a fun vacation!

Lyssa many women on here have suffered through miscarriages and infertility. We tend to err on the side of caution. Of course the doctor's opinion is what really matters but I figure if it causes any anxiety then it is better not to for peace of mind.

This is an easy one I feel. Don't gallop, just go for a nice slow stroll. Unless you have had bad luck with a previous pregnancy I would think at 9 weeks you would be perfectly fine but definitely ask a doctor regardless of what you read on here.

wow! I really thought you would get totally different answers to this. I'm an avid horseback rider (just on trails, not a shower or jumper or anything) and my doctor said that unless I was uncomfortable I was okay to go ahead to do it. We have so much padding and the baby is still so small, that even if you fall it's not going to cause a miscarriage. Now when you're 30 weeks...theres a whole lot more baby and less padding, but by then it wouldnt really be comfortable to do anyways. I trust my doctor completely. Plus...think of all the horse-riding tribes there were in the past, women in other countries who do/did their everyday stuff while pregnant. I don't think our whole lives should stop. Our bodies can handle a lot more than we give them credit for. But if it makes you uncomfortable -mentally or physically, then don't do it :)

Sorry but I think you should sit that activity out. You can talk to your doctor but I think it will be the same answer.

I'm a horse rider myself and my dr said it was a no go.. All it takes is the horse to spook at something you fall and baby won't make it.. I wouldn't risk it Hun

I wouldn't all the jostling about could very well cause a miscarriage. But I'd call your doctor and ask their advice about it.
