Q: How often can I use my fetal doppler?

I have a goofy question. Iâ??m 16 w 2 d and I like to use my home fetal doppler. I usually use it at night every day or every other day. Iâ??m plus size I canâ??t always easily find the heartbeat, but I do find it. Shortly after I find it, it seems like my baby doesnâ??t like it too much and moves away. My DH is worried that Iâ??m using it too much ad that I'm going to make the baby neurotic and stress him/her out! Am I using it too much or is my DH just being overprotective (although it's so cute how worried he is)? This is our first baby so we really have no idea! Thanks:-)

Thanks everyone:-) I have an appointment on Monday, so I'll be sure to ask. In the meantime, I'll lay off the doppler for a little while. I just like hearing the little heartbeat, but I'm sure he/she is just fine:-)

Babies do seem to be able to hear the doppler, but I don't know that there's been any studies on how it might effect them.

If you are worried try doing it less frequently, start doing it every few days perhaps and then move to twice a week, etc. Also, tell yourself that once you hear it for a bit (since then you have your reassurance) that you are done and you don't need to keep on poking around.

In a few weeks you will be able to feel movements and that will help as well, as they will be a nice reminder that everything is going well!

Im nearly 13 wks and i use my doppler every 2 or 3 days just to hear the heartbeat as i had a miscarraige in Oct. I dont think it would harm the baby at all if you were to use it everyday or they would have to put a warning of some sort on the box. Maybe ask the doctor or your midwife next time your in with them :)
