Q: Has anyone been misdiagnosed with a blighted ovum?

I had an abdominal u/s at 6 weeks 5 days and they weren't able to see anything at all. They didn't seem worried about it because it was early and they said my gestational sac measured 6 weeks 2 days. I went to ER on 03/18 at 8 weeks 2 days and they did a transvaginal u/s and said the gestational sac still measured 6 weeks 2 days and there was nothing inside it and diagnosed me with a blighted ovum. My levels on 03/18 were 27,000 and my cervix is closed. Has anyone had this happen and then go back and there was a baby? Or should I just accept this and move on?

I am on my 3rd pregnancy (2 miscarriages previously) and am 10 weeks today. Yesterday was my first u/s appointment and I have been diagnosed with a BO. I went home and cried my eyes out, then called and scheduled my d&c for Friday. Then I discovered the misdiagnosed miscarriage website and after reading the stories there, decided to call back and cancel the d&c for now. I have had no bleeding or cramping at all and can't help but hold on to some hope for at least a few more weeks. I am scared to death to go through with the d&c and always wonder..... yet scared to death to not have it done and end up stuck in my car or at work or something when the miscarriage begins. Please pray for our family. I have not stopped praying that this will be our miracle baby. Thank you.

I had a blighted ovum last summer and found out at my 8 week ultrasound.I let it miscarry naturally, and miscarried a week later. It's definitely a hard thing but I think that if you'd want to wait to make sure that's always fine too. I found a great website at that time called misdiagnosed miscarriage. Although mine was a true blighted ovum, there were many stories from women who had been misdiagnosed w/ one. Dont know if this helps, but best of luck to you. the biggest thing is to really just take good care of yourself either way :)

I was just reading up on some stories about misdaignosed blighted ovens today actually, so it can happen. There is no harm in waiting another week or two, then have some more betas and another ultrasound done. If the diagnosis is correct, your body may miscarry on its own. If not, it would become clear in time with further testing whether the diagnosis is correct or not. I just went through a loss, so I know how you feel.

GoodLuck!

You could wait a week and then see if it has grown at all. I had kinda the same thing just I didn't find out until 13 weeks. It was my first ultrasound. I can't call it a baby because it had no heart was more of a cell blob that grew in the sac. The blob measured 8 weeks 5 days. At that point it was obvious there was nothing there.
I am thinking though that it would be better to accept it and move on since there was no growth at all. But if you wanted to make sure see if you can wait a little bit and then have another ultrasound.
