Q: Sharing room with baby....

I only have a one bed apartment so baby will be in my room until we move when he/she is about a year old. What can I do to make it suitable for both of us? I.e in terms of decorating and such. I am very space limited in there, very small room so any ideas greatly appreciated.

If you want to decorate, you can find some pretty nursery type pictures, a decorated throw or blanket to hang, or wall decals that would match your bedding/decor and use those in the area of the room that will be the baby's. They will not leave any permanent damage to the walls (assuming you are allowed to hang things, if not just stick to the decals). You can also do things like decorating the dresser for the baby with contact paper or decoupage (especially if it's older and a bit dinged up). If there is a window there maybe get some different curtains that coordinate with the room but are different to really separate the area out. Get a small rug or runner for in front of the crib and it will be like a little mini nursery in that corner of the room :)

You can try a slightly modified cosleeping arrangement like we did, you take one side off the crib and then secure te crib to your bed to make a kind if side car, that way baby is nice a close but with less worry about rolling on them or them getting tangled in the blankets etc or if you are a restless sleeper no worries. you just have to make sure your bed and crib mattress are level and that there are no gaps, there are many videos online showing how to do this safely. Its particularly convenient when breastfeeding, no getting up lol. Good luck momma

Aww thank you so much klara2222, I wasn't really planning on co-sleeping, I thought I might just have the crib by my bed. It's a very good point about the baby not noticing whether it's got a nursery or not, I think that's what I was focusing on but I think that was more for me than the baby :) Thank you :)

Well, if you're interested in co-sleeping you won't need to do much at all as baby and you can share a bed and you'll just need a small dresser/stand for changing supplies, clothes and essentials that you'd want nearby. If you're not comfortable with co-sleeping (it's not for everyone), start with a small bassinet beside your bed (it doesn't need to be fancy; heck, some are pretty coloured cardboard boxes!) and the same dresser/stand I suggested before. A change table might be nice, but you can easily just get a change pad that you can put on top of your nightstand or on the bed and store under the bed when not in use. It doesn't need to be complicated and baby won't care or notice if s/he doesn't have a nursery as long as s/he's got you, I promise!
