Q: Threw out my lower back at 28 weeks

I work as a private care nurse (one of my jobs the second is a desk job) I work 6 days total btwn the two. Today I was roling my patient to change his diaper and i threw out my lower back to the point where i can't even arch my back or bend to touch my knees. I see my DR on Wednesday for a check up. She had assured me that it was OK for me to work with my patient as long as i feel cumfortable at my last visit. I don't know what to do bc I could just take off a week. I hate to loose the income but I am affraid it might happen again or get worse... what do you think I should do? I wanted to stay with him as long as possible but i dont wana hurt myself or the baby.. i sometimes dont know when to quit and i dont know if it would be unreasonable for me to stay or if i am just pushing myself too much... again.. HELP! What would YOU do?

That's a tough one...I'm not sure what I would do. Obviously your health and the baby's is most important (but I can understand the income needs as well). Talk to your doctor about it. Do you have short-term disability coverage (or would it not apply since it's private care)? It might be time to start investigating your options. If you need to keep the job in the meantime, you might want to look into a back brace or something to provide extra support to your lower back. I don't think I'm much help here, but I hope you are feeling better soon!
