Q: 7 week ultrasound with abnormal gestational mass!!

My DH and I eagerly went to our first ultrasound today. We were so very happy to hear the baby's strong, healthy heartbeat. However, there was an abnormal mass within the gestational sac! The OB sent us to get a second opinion at the womens center. We spent a total of 5 hours at the center waiting for doctor after doctor (a total of 6) to attempt to give us an answer. Well everyone was stumped and all pretty much said it was too early and required weekly tests to monitor growth! It's hard to not worry. Anyone else in a similar predicament?

Don't feel like a failure. You have a wonderful life growing inside of you. It sounds like your baby is nice and healthy, you saw the heartbeat, so that is a good sign. I know you are concerned about the mass as anyone would be. I will send up prayers for you and your little one. Try to enjoy the pregnancy and think positive. It's the best thing for you and your sweet little bean.

I asked them if it could have been a twin, they said they are unsure. They also mentioned a vanishing twin usually isnt so much bigger than the baby. The mass is measuring about 3 cm and baby is measuring at a healthy normal 1.20 cm. I have another ultrasound on 8/3/12. I hate that they didn't get a chance to do any other tests. Trying to stay calm, but it's really hard to not think about it. It makes me feel like a failure already.

Im no DR, but the only thing I could think of is potentially you were having identical twins and one passed?? Or maybe their heartbeats are unison? Is this possible?
