Q: Breast implants and breast feeding

I can't seem to find clear info on this so I'll ask normal people. For women who have had breast implants, did you/could you breast feed? Did you produce adequate amounts? Was the drying up process just as or more painful then before surgery ( if you had a child before surgery as well). Did you breasts get larger during pregnancy? Any input would be helpful.

I too am an accountant and the bigger bread winner in my family, also got implants after my first two kids. First of all, the decision to get implants was MY decision and I considered whether or not I would have more kids, be able to breast feed, etc. I still think I made a good decision to get them, and I'd also do it again. My reasons for doing it were mine. Obviously the first commenter is perfect and has never made a decision that anyone else would ever consider "wrong". How nice for her.
whatever. Anyway, my bbs have dramatically grown since becoming preggo and looking to do more. But, my ob says its very unlikely I will have any limits bf. I should get along just fine.
Let me also mention, there are large, normal, and small breasted women who simply can't bf through no fault of their own. It doesn't make them ANY less of a mother!!! And how about adoptive parents? Are you going to say they should have considered something else because they also made a choice????

I posted this question originally and would like to thank those of you who ACTUALLY ANSWERED instead of just feeling the need to throw a judgmental comment out with no actual factual or pertinent information what's so ever. I'd also like to say I'm GLAD I had them done and I'd do it again. I am pretty sure breast feeding will be fine but was curious. In addition, i do also know many woman just don't produce milk at all w/o ever having implants and some also just choose to not breast feed. Their babies flourish just fine! So I am in no way going to be devastated if I can't. I know my baby will still get the nutrients he/she needs.

I am 18 weeks pregnant with a baby girl and also have breast implants (under the muscle) and fully intend to breast feed. My doctor says I will have no problem whatsoever. The person who made that comment clearly is uneducated and insanely rude. I am a 29 year old Finacial Advisor with a very successful practice and the decision to have breast implants is personal and you don't owe anyone an explanation. There are plenty of mothers w/I breast implants who simply choose not to breast feed. Does this make them a bad mother - NO! I'm sorry but this makes me so upset. You will do what is best for you and your baby and no one knows what that is but you. Congrats on your pregnancy! And cheers to breast implants - I love mine :)

For the person who wrote that rude comment: Do you know this person I doubt it. She has every right to have implants done. You have no right judge someone like that. This is supposed to be a friendly site for women. Implants are done for many reasons so don't judge someone if you don't know them or their story.
Ignore the rude comments, I'm sure everything will fine. :)

It's funny how the rude, ill mannered and unhelpful people always hide their user name isn't it? ;-)

Moving on... I am an average sane person, who works hard as an accountant in the City of London - i'm a decent person and a good mum and *SHOCK/HORROR* I have had breast implants put in too!! Lol...

I'm curious too, I enquired about breastfeeding before I had them put in and the lady (albeit sales lady) said it would be ok. I had my booking appointment today and mentioned it to my (non-judgemental) midwife and she said that it would be ok as long as the implants were behind the milk ducts... I didn't think it was possible for them to be anywhere else?! I've spent the afternoon googling it and that seems to indicate that everything should be fine... if I find out anything else, i'll update you! :-)

I don't have implants, but read about breastfeeding with them in the What to Expect When You're Expecting, book. It says that most of the time implants should not get in the way at all of breastfeeding, and you'll produce milk as normal.

I can't answer the enlargement question, but if I had to venture a guess I would think your breasts still could grow like breast without implants due to the hormonal changes and the production of milk.

wow, that last comment was very rude because this website is supposed to be women friendly and help out other pregnant women with ANY questions they have. Anyways, I don't have breast implants but I was reading about them interfering with breastfeeding. I have read that some women do produce milk with implants... I have found a link that can answer your question(s): http://www.babycenter.com/0_breastfeeding-after-breast-augmentation-implants_8680.bc

i find it strange that someone would go through with that kind of surgery before knowing the answers to those questions, especially if you planned on ever having children. i wouldnt even consider so much as a nipple ring until AFTER my baby-having days are done. good luck, i hope you get the answers you need and that you will be able to breastfeed. it would be a shame if your baby had to miss out because of implants!
