Q: High Blood Pressure

I've been sick recently and had been drinking a lot of soup which in turn has raised my blood pressure. I've been off the soup for 3 days and really watching what I eat but my blood pressure remains the same. At what point should I call the doctor? I'm about 7 weeks along.

If you think it is the can soup I would advise you to switch to real home made soup, because this will remove the sodium, preservatives and chemicals from the equation. Maybe is one of those artificial things what is making you feel sick. I would call my doctor anyway just to be in the safe side.

Good luck!

I had high blood pressure during my first pregnancy and the first thing my doctor told me was to stop eating foods high is sodium, mainly processed foods like soup, frozen pizzas, pasta sauce, cheese etc. Sodium is DEFINETLY one factor in high blood pressure whether your pregnant or not, as well as stress, illness and multiple other factors. I would still see your doctor but i am sure one of the things he will suggest is to reduce sodium :)

Being sick can also raise blood pressure, your body goes into fight mode. Excessive sodium could also be playing role. I say that if your feeling better but pressure still up it can't hurt to call your doctor and see what they suggest better to be safe than sorry. My pressure is usually lower than the average but my pressure was elevated the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy but it was stress, we had some early complications that have now ironed themselves out. Either way they just watched me close. SO I say call dr and let them know protect your baby they'll tell you wether important or not. Feel better soon and good luck!

I find that hard to believe considering all the research that says over doing it on sodium can raise your blood pressure. Either way, the question was about whether or not it is a cause for concern, thanks anyway.

Eating 3-4 cans of soup a day (it's all I could swallow) for almost a week straight when they have 50% of your daily sodium each...it would definitely have an effect.
