Q: Does anybody else reeeally miss subway sandwiches? I miss deli meat more than anything!! Advice?

So I am not a crazy "won't walk into a paint store" or "won't eat muffin if I don't know every ingredient in it" kind of pregnant lady but I am very much a "don't do what mother risk and midwife say not to do". Having said that, this no deli/processed meats thing really sucks lol. It took me a while to get pregnant so I'm not about to whine too much about it but I thought I'd ask others what they are doing in terms of "healthy" fast food? Aside from McD's salads. Please no "deli meat is perfectly safe" answers because according to my midwife, doctor and mother risk, it is not lol.

If you really want a cold deli meat sandwich my doctor told me it was fine to heat the meat up until steaming and then throw it in the freezer really quick to make it cold again and that was safe to do. She said that the listeria wouldn't be able to grow back that fast. I have been doing that to fulfill my cravings.

this is one of those things when your mum was pregnant with you there was no worries about eating peanuts, soft cheese, pate, and deli meat, id have subway during my pregnancy and not worry because my midwife has never told me not to eat deli meat during any of my pregnancies. and even if she did like the other girls have said heat it up to piping hot and enjoy every bite.

My OB told me that as long as you heat the deli meat to steaming that it's safe to eat, so I just eat hot lunchmeat sandwhiches, in which I usually melt the cheese too, pretty awesome but I still miss a cold sandwhich now and then :)

I still go but I get them to bore out the whole west bread and fill it with ALL the veggies and light mayo. It satisfies my craving and I can still eat something when my two daughters crave subway. try it!

I had deli meats all the time when I was preg and it never did anything to us, in the end all food will have some risk to it, I read the list of food a pregnant lady shldnt eat and I thought if I did that I'd definatly starve. But all things in moderation. And it took me 3 years to conceive, :-).

Heated deli is absolutly fine. Its when its cold its bad. So you can still get a toasted/heated sub!

I actually asked my doctor about this, and he had NO issues with buying packaged deli meat and eating it cold, but he was worried about places like Subway since people tend to not wash their hands before making the sandwich. (ICK!) BUT if it's heated at Subway it should be totally OK!! I have them throw it in their twice so I can see it steaming! Same with potbelly!! :)

They'll microwave the meat for you at subway. That's what I had them do when I was craving subway.

My dr told me it's all about moderation! She said a sub here and there won't hurt anything. Obviously if you eat a sub everyday, you have a way higher chance of listeria finding you. Just use common sense and don't over do any certain food!
