Category: Is It Safe?

Asked by mrsamandaervin

Q: I have not seen my doctor yet, as he only sees you at 8 weeks and I just found out I am pregnant....

I'm 3w5d, hoping for a VERY sticky baby. First pregnancy, and a little worried. I've seen a lot of people go through some painful experiences. My question is: what medicines are safe to take and what is not safe? The day I found out I'm pregnant was the day I came down with this terrible cold/sinus problem. No clue if they are related, but I feel terrible. I know not to take ibuprofen, and take Tylenol or acetaminaphen instead. I may call my doc tomorrow to see what they suggest. I'm kind of scared to take anything at all, period. It's just so early and I don't want to do anything to hurt our little turkey from growing and attaching like he/she should.

I second the neti pot suggestion! I am prone to really bad sinus congestion. I started using the neti pot on a regular basis and not only does it feel great (after you get used to the feeling of flushing your sinuses lol), but it helped prevent more congestion for me!

Welcome over to this side! I'm the same right now and I'm even avoiding the Tylenol if I can help it and using the nedi pot which is amazing if you've never done it. Weird at first but sooo helpful.

Good luck to you! I saw so many of ya on the other site getting your BFPs so congrats!

I was afraid of that. I figured maybe it will go away on it's own in a couple days. I HOPE! :)

And they prob are related. Preg women are immuno suppressed so that your immune system doesn't attack the baby. Get used to colds this winter. :(

Personally, at the stage of development you're in, I would avoid cold meds & take Tylenol if u start to run a temp. All cold meds do are alleviate symptoms. Only time will knock out a cold. Push the fluids, get rest, gargle with salt water if your throat hurts/cough. Saline nose drops for congestion. I was in my first trimester this time of year with my first & caught the worst cold, so I feel your pain. At 4 weeks, I just don't think it's worth the risk. Congrats again! Glad to see you over here!!!!
