Q: pulmonary embolism anyone?

I've put a call into the doctor but wanted some feedback on if anyone has had this before. Last night I kept waking up gasping for air and today I'm a little short of breath (not sure if it's anxiety because I suspect embolism) A few days prior to this I had felt an issue in the back of my leg and when touched feels bruised where there are some veins so I'm a little concerned. Anyone have this and if so, what were your symptoms. Feel a little paranoid and silly for calling doc this morning if it's nothing.

I'll admit it was the most terrifying experience of my life... I had none of the usual symptoms, just a minor discomfort in my chest (i threw the clots from my pelvis so there was no leg pain), so it was easy to write off. I finally went in when it didn't get better because I thought I might have cracked a rib somehow, didn't even think to be worried about anything else because I was 23 and in perfect health. Next thing I'm in the hospital with 20+ clots in both lungs and serious tissue damage in my left one! I used to never go to the doc for anything, going years between appointments, but now I jump at everything... I'm sure being a mom will make that even worse!

I'm glad it turned out to be nothing serious, I 100% understand the wariness!

Thanks Josamarie! Sorry you had to go through that. It is scary, especially for what you went through, not getting a big sign of what it was. My dad kept telling me, "You'd know if you had it, trust me." But I didn't want to take any chances as I've also been getting more paranoid about my health the older I get :)

After a massive PE in 2010 that I ignored as "gas" for six days before seeing a doctor (and subsequently almost dying and spending the two weeks prior to my wedding in a hospital!), I don't believe in feeling silly for worrying or calling a doctor anymore. I have gone to the er more than once for what turned out to be a leg cramp or gas bubble, and despite the rolling of the eyes I might get from the triage nurses, I'd much rather be safe than sorry! Glad you're ok and it was a false alarm!

Oh, thanks for asking! I'm fine. I feel like a ding dong for freaking out (but better safe than sorry), but I'm fine. It runs in my family, though (my dad had it), and even my 4 year old was asking about the booboo on the back of my leg where the veins are and it made me really think about it and the pain I was having. I'm still a little short of breath but probably because this baby is growing so much. Thanks again for asking!

Thanks everyone! My doc told me to go to the hospital so I'm here all hooked up and I'm sure will be waiting a while. I feel a little silly but just wanted to be sure as it runs in my family. Oh well better safe than sorry. Thanks for your replies!

Hey I had this with my first child 12 years ago if you had a pulmonary embolism you would know, I couldn't breath without sharp stabbing pains in my chest I was coughing up and vomiting blood, was really dizzy , I actually thought I was going to die while travelling via ambulance to another hospital, iv got shortness of breath with this pregnancy and iv woken during the night short of breath and have to sit up n catch my breath but nothing like the PE, good luck it's always best to get checked when you feel like something isn't right though x

If you were sleeping on your back chances are that you were short of breathe because of that.

When I had a PE last year I coughed up around a cup of bright red blood, also ran into my stomach and made me vomit. Always good to be sure as it quite serious if you do have but apparently coughing up blood is usually a pretty good sign.
